On this day in history: June 22, 1941 - The German Army invades Russia, quickly destroying five Russian armies and one fourth of the Red air force. At completion of the war in 1945, nearly 27 million Soviets were dead. Thus ended the German-Soviet "Peace and Friendship" Treaty.

Born on this day in history: June 22, 1949 - Meryl Streep (1949 - ) New Jersey actress Meryl Streep made her film debut in 1977. She won her first Oscar in Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), and is known for her range and facility with accents in movies like Sophie's Choice (1982), Adaption(2002) and Julie and Julia (2009). Streep has received 15 Oscar and 23 Golden Globe nods-more than any other actor in history.
