Born on this day in history: December 28, 1954 - Denzel Washington (1954 - ) New York actor Denzel Washington appeared in off-Broadway productions until gaining a starring role in TV drama "St. Elsewhere." He went on to films, and won Oscars for Glory (1989) and Training Day (2001), becoming the second African-American man to win the Best Actor award. His role in 2007's American Gangster also garnered critical praise.
