Born on this day in history: December 10, 1830 - Emily Dickinson (1830 - 1886) Born in Amherst, Massachusetts, poet Emily Dickinson published less than a dozen poems during her lifetime. After Dickinson's death in 1886, her sister discovered nearly 1,800 of Emily's poems. An edited book of Dickinson's work was published in 1890, and an unedited version came available in 1955. She is now considered a major American poet.
