On this day in history: December 14, 1944 - Lupe Velez, Hollywood's "Mexican Spitfire" of the 1940s, commits suicide with an overdose of sleeping pills. Contrary to her plans of being found laid out on the bed in a silk nightgown, she is instead discovered in the bathroom with her head in the toilet. Her ex-husband, Tarzan star Johnny Weismuller, frequently used to beat her.






Born on this day in history: December 14, 1946 - Patty Duke (1946 - ) Born Anna Marie Duke on December 14, 1946 in Elmhurst, New York. Patty Duke's first big role came in 1951 when she was cast as Helen Keller in the Broadway version of The Miracle Worker. In 1962, the play was turned into a feature film, and Patty won an Academy Award for best supporting actress. She was the youngest person ever to win the award.
