Born on this day in history: December 16, 1770 - Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 - 1827) Born in Bonn, Germany, composer Ludwig van Beethoven studied under Haydn and possibly Salieri. His music is usually divided into three periods: the first, including his first two symphonies (1792-1802); second, including the Eroica symphony (803-12); and third, including the Mass (1813-26).
