Born on this day in history: January 3, 1956 - Mel Gibson (1956 - ) Born in Peekskill, New York, producer, director and actor Mel Gibson grew up in Australia. His first success was in Mad Max (1979), and he went on to international fame in blockbuster hits such as Lethal Weapon (1987) and Braveheart (1995). Gibson bankrolled and directed the controversial, The Passion of the Christ in 2004.
