The Weather - The rain continues to fall—albeit lightly. Weatherpeople forecast the rain will end later today. They predict sunshine, warmth, and little or no wind through the weekend and into next week.

The World Has Gone Fully Insane! - A casual browsing of current news items certainly bears witness to this postulation:

  • Authorities say a woman accused of robbing a bank in eastern Nebraska posted a video on YouTube bragging about the robbery
  • Handyman held hostage, forced to fix home
  • Department of Homeland Security grants used to pay for snow-cone machines
  • Cop shoots dog, writes owner a parking ticket
  • School locked down after student brings thermometer to class
  • Man Shoots Girlfriend in Fight Over "The Walking Dead"
  • Senate Democrats defend administration's right to take guns away from veterans

If those headlines are not sufficient evidence of the complete madness into which the world has fallen, consider this: Verizon Patent Could Listen In On Customers - Verizon has filed a patent for targeting ads that collect information from infrared cameras and microphones that can detect the amount of people and types of conversations happening in customers’ living rooms.

I can speak only for myself, but I certainly consider this concept to be repugnant and fully without redemptive qualities of any sort. The idea of Verizon (or anyone!) spying upon me in this fashion makes the idea of moving to Mars very attractive indeed.
