Imagine my surprise when I encountered this scene while driving to my office this morning! Click to enlarge.

CatCam has returned!

As regular readers will recall, Phaedra—my main system here at my office—expired two weeks ago. I replaced Phaedra with Hal—a cutting-edge Hewlett-Packard unit with great speed and storage. Hal, of course, uses the Microsoft Vista operating system. The old Web cam that ran CatCam on Phaedra would not work under Vista. I bought a Microsoft LifeCam 6000. Everything I had read indicated that the software I had used with Phaedra for CatCam—ISpy—would not work under Vista. I have been searching for a replacement application, without success. Yesterday, I decided to try ISpy. It works flawlessly under Vista! I now await a 15' USB 2.0 extension cable so that I can place the Microsoft Web camera in the window. This camera is very advanced and offers such features as zoom, pan, tilt, etc.—directly from the camera software. I will get the camera configured and aimed optimally when the extension cable arrives. For now, the camera sits inside my office and peers out at the street.

Slide Show of Images from May Madness

Replacing Phaedra, the scanner, the Web camera, and several programs has taken a good deal of my time and energy. Yesterday, however, I did complete the creation of a 125-image slide show from the 508 photographs I took at last month's May Madness, the annual Corning Car Show. From the Photo Gallery of Local Events, choose May Madness Car Show, May 2009. You may view the images individually or view them as a slide show. Thunderstorm!

Last night—beginning around 11 PM—the fiercest thunderstorm I can recall experiencing visited us! The thunder was deafening, and the lightning was incredibly bright and frequent. The rain that accompanied this storm fell with great abandon. This morning, everything is fresh and clean, the sky is clear, the sun is shining, and the birds are singing.
