Chris Falco Chris and I have been long-distance friends for many, many years—since the old days of BBSes, in fact. In those days of yore, Chris and I communicated via a system known as echo mail on the Intelec network. This was a system whereby individual BBSes (Bulletin Board System, or BBS, is a computer system running software that allows users to connect and log in to the system using a terminal program. Once logged in, a user can perform functions such as uploading and downloading software and data, reading news and bulletins, and exchanging messages with other users, either through electronic mail or in public message boards. Many BBSes also offer on-line games, in which users can compete with each other, and BBSes with multiple phone lines often provide chat rooms, allowing users to interact with each other.) interconnected to share mail "packets" that were downloaded (generally daily) and thereby allowed users of one BBS to communicate with users of other BBSes. The process is incredibly slow compared with email and high-speed Internet connectivity, but at the time (early 1990s) it was exciting, and via this methodology, Chris and I became friends!
