On this day in history: April 27, 1986 - During a live TV special, journalist Geraldo Rivera opens Al Capone's vault beneath the Lexington Hotel in Chicago. He finds nothing inside, apart from a few empty bottles.

Born on this day in history: April 27, 1822 - Ulysses S. Grant (1822 - 1885) president (18th). He was union commander-in-chief during the Civil War; his presidency was marred, however, by several scandals.

The wind that plagued an otherwise perfect day yesterday has abated. It was 59 degrees outside at 7:15 AM this morning, according to Mr. Nitro's temperature probe. It was 69 degrees in my office. The weatherpeople forecast a peak temperature today of 92 degrees!
