Born in Cairo, GA, baseball player Jackie Robinson was the first African-American to play in the major leagues, becoming a star for the Brooklyn Dodgers (1947–56). Robinson was Rookie of the Year in 1947 and league batting champion and Most Valuable Player in 1949.
