Born on this day in history: September 1, 1958 - Gloria Estefan (1958-). Born Gloria Fajardo in Havana, singer Gloria Estefan fled Cuba when Castro gained power. In 1978, she married keyboardist Emilio Estefan, and their first Miami Sound Machine disco hit was "Dr. Beat," in 1980. In 1990, Estefan suffered a broken back in a car accident and had to make a grueling recovery.

Some said the deal was too good to be true, and in the end, they were right. After a week of giving away free iced coffee, Starbucks has canceled the coupons. It started last Wednesday with an email to some employees in the Southeast. They were encouraged to forward friends and family a coupon for a free grande iced beverage. Within a week, the coupon had made the rounds on email, blogs, and Web sites such as SlickDeals.net. Tuesday night, the Seattle-based coffee giant issued a news release canceling the offer immediately, even though the coupons carry a September 30 expiration date. The release said the offer had been "redistributed beyond the original intent and modified beyond Starbucks' control."
