On this day in history: November 1, 1950 - Attempt by Puerto Rican nationalists to assassinate President Truman at Blair House fails, leaving one of them dead.


Born on this day in history: November 1, 1942 - Larry Flynt (1942 - ) Born in Lakeville, Kentucky, publisher and civil liberties advocate Larry Flynt founded the magazine "Hustler" in 1974, then spent years challenging government limits to rights to free speech. In 1978, he was shot and paralyzed. In 1996, Flynt was the subject of a movie starring Woody Harrelson.
