Born on this day in history: November 17, 1942 - Martin Scorsese (1942 - ) Born in New York, Martin Scorsese is considered one of the foremost directors of his generation. His many films include Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980) and Gangs of New York (2002). In 2006, he won his first Oscar for Best Director for The Departed.
