On this day in history: December 31, 1985 - Rock musician Ricky Nelson dies in an airplane crash in De Kalb, TX at age 45.

Born on this day in history: December 31, 1937 - Sir Anthony Hopkins (1937 - ) Born in Port Talbot, Wales, actor Anthony Hopkins made his stage debut in 1960, then went on to appear in films, including The Elephant Man (1980). He gained worldwide fame for his Oscar-winning performance as serial killer Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs (1991). Hopkins was knighted in 1993, and became a U.S. citizen in 2000.
