Born on this day in history: December 31, 1937 - Anthony Hopkins (1937 - ) Born in Port Talbot, Wales, actor Anthony Hopkins made his stage debut in 1960, and went on to appear in numerous plays and films, including "The Elephant Man" (1980). He gained worldwide fame for his Oscar-winning performance as serial murderer Hannibal Lecter in "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991). Hopkins was knighted in 1993, and became a U.S. citizen in 2000.
