Fighting Back, Here's the Beef, -and- Flying High
Fighting Back - man in wheelchair fatally shoots home intruder
Here's the Beef - hot dog champ switches gears, eats 103 burgers
Flying High - Virgin co-pilot in alcohol arrest
On this day in history: October 29, 1994 - Armed with a semi-automatic rifle, Colorado upholsterer Francisco Duran fires 27 shots at the White House from the sidewalk on Pennsylvania Ave. Because he opted for Chinese-made SKS rifle, few of Duran's shots come anywhere near the building. Nevertheless, he receives a life sentence for attempting to assassinate President Clinton.
Born on this day in history: October 29, - Apparently, no famous person was born on this day.
Scripture of the Day: "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual act of worship." (Romans 12:1)
Video of the Day: Dodge Nitro Goes Mudding
While driving to my office this morning, I passed a fellow Nitro owner. I was preparing to wave, when I noticed the flashing lights!Click to enlarge.

As a safe, Christian alternative to the Satanic celebration of Halloween, Harvest Christian Center will host the annual Harvest Festival. Everyone is invited to attend the Thirteenth Annual Free Harvest Festival, 5 PM to 9 PM, Harvest Christian Center, 1006 Sixth Street, Corning. Lots of candy, toys, games, chili, cookies and popcorn, pony rides, and bouncing castles. Free drawing for adults 18 years and older. For further information, please call 530-824-2091. This is an excellent event that traditionally attracts several thousand attendees. Laura baked ten dozen cookies for this event last evening. She shall be operating the fishing booth game, and I shall be photographing the event.

Great fighting back story. Scary drunk pilot story. Too much of this stuff in the news lately. Scary stuff.
Let me make a guess you're not going to take **your** Nitro through the mud like that?!?
Harvest Festival sounds great. What a great way to offer an alternative to the 'traditional' evil Halloween stuff. TV's full of all the creepy demon movies already I noticed over the weekend. A lot of people don't understand just how deep rooted Halloween is in evil. I'll read the Facts About Halloween later. Should be a good read for everybody. Have a good one.

Cap'n,
The Harvest Festival is a wonderful event.
Everything is a celebration of either good or evil, light or darkness, life or death. Halloween is a celebration of evil, darkness, and death. The Harvest Festival takes back the night for Jesus Christ!

Yeah Halloween's a bad deal really...good alternative like you say...too bad this isn't done for kids in all cities...too much influence on tv and in stores, etc...like you said, glorifies death and evil...lots don't get it, and that's too bad.
Love the vid...go ahead and go for it David...it'll wash off...put your Mr. Clean machine through its paces...haha

Darin,
I believe I shall not take Mr. Nitro through the mud! He did encounter a small puddle in the alleyway behind my office this morning, but he successfully avoided it.

Halloween is something with which I am very familiar. I've studied it in class and more on my own research. As a psychologist, I am particularly aware of the damage this does to society by celebrating evil, darkness, and death, since the overall effect is moral erosion and numbing of moral awareness and moral directive.
Sorry about the psych-speak. In everyday terms, traditionl celebration of Halloween allows Satanic influences to invade the mainstream in a way that seems "harmless" or even "innocent" because of the way society allows this to happen. Eventually, this "acceptance" by society degrades the moral structure of society to a point where things that would otherwise be unacceptable are suddenly acceptable. The proof of this is plainly seen in television programming, as Cap'n Jack (love that moniker, BTW!) said. Television is a mirror held up to society. It mirrors what society is doing and thinking. Foul language, sexual perversion, indecency, all these things have become commonplace due to the erosion of the moral structure of society. It is unfortunate, but if society as a whole sees and hears something often enough, it evolves from unaccepted to allowed to accepted. Look, for example, at the current "popularity" of attacks and fighting videos made by children and placed on YouTube, MySpace, etc., etc. The more this is allowed, the more it becomes accepted. It creates a virtual whirlpool into which society is drawn and from which it is difficult for it to climb.
I like a good scary movie, don't misunderstand that. But for me, the climax must be a celebration of GOOD versus EVIL. If GOOD does not win, and if EVIL reigns, the message is unacceptable by my standards and should be unacceptable by everyone's standards!
Thanks, David, for helping to expose Halloween for what it truly is, and God Bless you and Harvest Christian Center. As Darin pointed out, it is truly unfortunate that all cities do not have the availability of such a wonderful way to "take back the night" as you put it. The minds and hearts and souls of the young are in great peril!

I know David is thinking where is the nearest mud hole and I shall take Mr. Nitro for a dip. Well okay reality sets in and I know David will NOT do such a thing.
For a minute I thought that was you take a picture of Mr. Nitro with the flashing lights behind it. Glad to hear it was not.
You will need to swing by fam5.com I had an alien encounter on the blog.

Haha yeah I can't see David driving through any mudpuddles, specially not on purpose and specially not big ole mudpuddles like those ones in the vid that's for sure. Practically guarantee it I'll tell you that much for sure. Not a doubt one in my mind at all.
Yeah drunk pilots are just plain nuts and how dangerous that's got to be and how scary cause it's a whole planeload of people're in danger of crashing and dying cause some stupid pilot wants to drink before he flies the plane. It's way way crazy too cause those pilots make lots of money and all they've got to do is fly drunk and lose their pilot licenses and then they're out of a job big time. Stupid is all I can call that kind of thing. Stupid.
Yeah and speaking of stupid, those eating contests are way stupid too, cause not only is it gluttony, which is a big ole sin of course in the first place, it's way unhealthful too cause all sorts of things are done to harm the digestive system and specially the intestines. Just like in the King of the Hill episode where Bill gets into a hot dog eating contest and all and the host of the cocktail party's had multiple bypass surgeries cause of gluttony in the competitive food eating contests. It's funny in the show till you think bout it then it's sure not funny anymore.
Hey Laura I saw that costume story early this morning. I sure wouldn't want any part of that kind of thing and plus which it's right in line with what Amber said bout the moral decay of the society cause of relaxing moral guidelines and letting things that used to be not allowed be okay to do and say and wear or whatever now, and it's building and getting worse and it's going to be hard to stop that's for sure. Having safe and Christ-oriented celebrations like you guys're having at your church is sure a great way to help but only one day and only anti-Halloween. It's a great thing that's for sure but something's got to be done each and every day of the year and everywhere and get this world back on track where it's sposed to be and stop thinking like money's the most important thing and nasty talk and acting and dressing's okay which it sure isn't of course, and the government's got to step in and make tv clean itself up big time cause that's where a lot of kids get their ideas of how to act and talk and dress and then their parents don't step in either and so the kids are left thinking it's okay to talk and act and dress like sluts cause they see Britney Spears and all her kind do it and so they think it's cool and the thing to do and it's just being a slut and that's a big sin and an immoral way to live that's for sure. Wish I could put it into words the way Amber does but I'm not a psychologist so I'm not sposed to be able to do it I imagine. I sure agree with everything she said though.
Hey Laura -- 10 dozen cookies? That's a lot of baking. Did you from scratch them or what? I bake cookies lots but I buy the little packages of readymade cookie dough and stuff. Nobody can tell they're not from scratch and plus which they're all bout the same size and plus which there's not much mess and there's not so much work and really I think it's just about as cheap to buy the readymade cookie dough and stuff as it is to buy all the separate ingredients and mix it all up. That's what I tell myself anyway.
Speaking of cookies, I need to bake some cause I've been buying too many already made from Raley's bakery or Pepperidge Farms or whatever and they're good and all but I love the way the house smells when cookies are in the oven.
That's all I know for right now.

I read the Halloween history and learned some things I didn't know and was reminded of some things I did know. I recommend all parents read it to their children!
I really enjoy a good scary movie, but I agree that the movie must show good triumphing over evil!
That is a great post, Amber. Thanks.
May God bless you all and keep you all safe on Halloween (and always!).
