Movies I Have Recently Seen and Recommendations - I shall depart from my usual format and share some of my thoughts concerning the movies I have recently seen.
NOTE: For detailed information on these (and nearly any movie!), I recommend Internet Movie Database
I highly recommend I, Frankenstein. The action and FX are awesome.
I highly recommend Son of God. This is the story of Jesus. The acting and production are superb.
I highly recommend The Book of Eli. Denzel Washington plays a man traveling through a post-apocalyptic America in order to protect a sacred book. The movie is simply wonderful!
I recommend R.I.P.D. A recently slain cop (Ryan Reynolds) joins a team of undead police officers and tries to find the man who killed him. Jeff Bridges plays his partner. The movie is a total hoot, and the FX and action are excellent.
I highly recommend Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. These movies are really excellent. The costumes, cars, and sets in the first movie are awesome, the FX and action are great, and the good feeling of patriotism flows strongly through them. WATCH THESE MOVIES!
I highly recommend Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. This tells the story of a CIA analyst who finds himself trying to thwart an attack upon the U.S. and the killing of millions of Americans. There are some excellent car-chase/crash scenes, fight scenes, and action sequences. WATCH THIS MOVIE!
I highly recommend Walk of Shame. This is a HOOT! It has a bit of off-color language, but it is intrinsic to the situations. It tells the story of a TV anchorwoman who gets lost in the bad part of Los Angeles and must find her way and make it to the studio by 5 for her daily broadcast. Her car has been towed, and she has lost her money, purse, and cellphone. For a really entertaining, very humorous tale, this is recommended!
I highly recommend Captain Phillips. This is the true story of a captain (played by Tom Hanks) who must protect his ship from Somali pirates.
I recommend Runner Runner. A poor college student (Justin Timberlake) cracks an online poker game, goes to work for the international online casino owner (Ben Affleck), and thinks he has it made. Suddenly, everything begins to fall apart. I am not an Affleck fan, but he does well playing a snobbish megalomaniac. WATCH IT!
I highly recommend Reasonable Doubt! A district attorney’s (Dominic Cooper) life becomes upside-down when he is involved in a hit-and-run and allows another man (Samuel L. Jackson) be arrested and charged with murder. This is a real thriller. WATCH IT.
I highly recommend World War Z! If you like zombie movies, this is the best there is! Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt) travels the world attempting to stop the zombie pandemic that is threatening to destroy humanity. The FX and action are great. WATCH IT!
I highly recommend Homefront! A former DEA agent (Jason Statham) moves his family to a quiet town and encounters the local meth drug lord. The action is great. WATCH IT!
I highly recommend The Counselor! A lawyer (Michael Fassbender) finds himself in over his head when he gets involved in drug trafficking.
I highly recommend Olympus Has Fallen. A disgraced presidential guard finds himself trapped inside the White House in the wake of a terrorist attack. The FX and action are great. The excellent screenplay and first-rate acting make the story believable. WATCH THIS MOVIE!
I recommend White House Down. The premise is very similar to the above, but the screenplay and acting are silly at times. The action scenes and FX are great, however, and I recommend the movie.
I highly recommend Lone Survivor! It is excellent. It is based on true events.
It is a biographical thriller. Mark Wahlberg plays Marcus Luttrell. He and his team are set out on a mission to capture or kill a Taliban leader in June, 2005. Marcus and his team are left to fight for their lives in one of the most valiant efforts of modern warfare.
I strongly advise NOT WATCHING Neighbors. It is unbelievably raunchy and abysmally foul. I watched only 2 minutes prior to becoming physically ill. Seth Rogen (possibly the foulest actor extant) reportedly claims he laughed throughout the making of the movie. That says it all!
I strongly advise NOT WATCHING That’s My Boy. This is the unnervingly foul Adam Sandler story of a young boy who fathers a son with his high school teacher. The language and scenes are extremely loathsome. AVOID THIS MOVIE!! I am an Adam Sandler fan and sat through about 20 minutes until I could take no more.
I strongly advise NOT WATCHING Bad Grandpa. This is an MTV "Jackass" movie that follows an elderly man about as he performs indescribably foul acts. AVOID THIS MOVIE! It has NO redeeming qualities!
I strongly advise NOT WATCHING Don Jon! This movie is entirely too foul to recommend. I watched two minutes and discontinued watching.
I recommend Rock of Ages. If you can suspend your disbelief long enough to accept Tom Cruise as a rock star, the movie is enjoyable. The soundtrack is great.
I do not recommend Bad Words. It is boring. It is tediously boring.
I do not recommend Gravity. It is boring. It is tediously boring.
I do not recommend Veronica Mars. It is boring. It is tediously boring.
I do not recommend Delivery Man. It is boring. It is tediously boring.
I do not recommend Grown Ups 2. It is boring. It is tediously boring.
I highly recommend Machete. It is gory and campy and fun! It has a goodly amount of foul language and a lot of violence, but the movie is a laugh riot!
Unfortunately, the sequel, Machete Kills, is poorly produced and should be avoided.
I recommend Ride Along. It is slow and often boring, but it has some humorous scenes.
I recommend Getaway. There is not much character development, and the plot is not strong, but the car chase scenes are many and excellent.
I recommend Escape Plan. Sylvester Stallone is a structural-integrity authority who gets set up and locked up in the world’s most secure prison. It is fast-paced, action-filled, and entertaining.
