    Born on this Day in History: November 30, 1955 - Musician Billy Idol was born in Middlesex, England. He joined the punk band Chelsea in 1976 and later left to form Generation X. In 1980 they had a hit U.S. single, "Dancing with Myself." In 1981, Idol launched his solo career in New York City with the release of "Don't Stop." After, he pulled together a new team, which released four successful records together.






    On this Day in History: November 30, 1994 - Rapper Tupac Shakur is shot five times in the chest in what may or may not have been an attempted robbery. He lives but is shot dead in Las Vegas, Nevada later.

    Born on this Day in History: November 29, 1942 - Diane Ladd landed her breakthrough role in the 1974 film Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, for which she earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The film was turned into a TV show, "Alice," and Ladd won a Golden Globe Award for her work. Other notable TV credits include "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman," "Grace Under Fire," and "Touched by an Angel"—all of which earned her Emmy nods.






    On this Day in History: November 29, 1944 - Malcolm X, then known as small-time criminal Malcolm Little, was arrested for larceny. He received a three months suspended sentence and one year probation.

    Born on this Day in History: November 28, 1929- Berry Gordy, born in Detroit, Michigan, founded Motown Records, the most successful black owned music company in the history of the United States. Motown Records recorded some of the most successful songs and groups in R&B and beyond, like Smokey Robinson, The Supremes, Michael Jackson, and Stevie Wonder. Gordy was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.






    On this Day in History: November 28, 1953 - Frank Olson, government scientist, jumps to his death from the Statler Hotel in New York City. In 1975 it is revealed that Olson had been administered LSD by Dr. Sidney Gottlieb in a CIA experiment.

    Born on this Day in History: November 22, 1984 - Actress and singer Scarlett Johansson is the daughter of a Danish architect and the granddaughter of a film director. Her first noted appearance was in The Horse Whisperer, followed by a major role in Lost in Translation (2003). Her first album Anywhere I Lay My Head was released in 2008, the same year she married actor Ryan Reynolds.






    On this Day in History: November 22, 1997 - Coolio arrested in Germany, for attempting to shoplift $2000 in clothes. A clerk at the store also claims Coolio punched her in the stomach during the altercation.

    Born on this Day in History: November 21, 1945 - Goldie Hawn began her career as a dancer, but switched to acting on television and then film. Hawn was a successful television actress in the 1960's, earning two Emmy nominations along the way. In 1980, she starred and produced Private Benjamin, earning an Oscar nomination. Her relationship with Kurt Russell began after working together on several films.






    On this Day in History: November 21, 1973 - A gap of 18-1/2 minutes is revealed in one of the Watergate tapes, a conversation between Richard M. Nixon and Haldeman. The erasure is blamed on an accident by Nixon's private secretary Rose Mary Woods, but scientific analysis determines the erasures to be deliberate. Later, Chief of Staff Alexander Haig blames the erasure on "some sinister force".

    Born on this Day in History: November 15, 1929 - Actor Ed Asner got his big break when he landed the part of gruff newsman Lou Grant on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." When that popular sitcom ended, Asner continued with the drama spinoff "Lou Grant." He won Emmy Awards for both shows. Asner's voice also starred in many animated features, including Pixar's Up. He was president of the Screen Actor's Guild 1981-1985.
