Born on this Day in History: February 9, 1944 - Alice Walker (1944 - ) Born in Eatonton, Georgia, poet and novelist Alice Walker is best known for her novels, notably The Color Purple (1982), which won a Pulitzer Prize and a National Book Award. It was made into a successful 1985 movie a 2005 Broadway musical. In 2006, she was inducted into the California Hall of Fame for her contributions to literature.
