    Born on this Day in History: April 29, 1957 - Daniel Day-Lewis (1957 - ) Film actor, born in London, UK, the son of C Day-Lewis. He trained at the Bristol Old Vic and, after several small roles on stage and television, became well known for My Beautiful Launderette (1985) and Room With A View (1985). He won awards for his portrayal of handicapped Irish writer Christy Brown in My Left Foot (1989, Oscar, BAFTA).

    April 28, 1881 - Billy the Kid escapes from a New Mexico jail, killing jailer Bob Ollinger and a fellow prisoner in the process. Billy will survive for another three months before Pat Garrett finally kills him.







    Born on this Day in History: April 28, 1974 - Penelope Cruz (1974 - ) Born in Madrid, Spain, actress Penelope Cruz trained in classical ballet in New York City, and parlayed her dancing into an acting career, landing a role in All the Pretty Horses (2000) and Sahara (2005). She won an Oscar for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

    Born on this Day in History: April 27, 1927 - Coretta Scott King (1927 - 2006) Civil rights activist Coretta Scott King may be best known as widow of slain leader Martin Luther King, Jr. She also had a distinguished career in activism in her own right. After her husband's death, King worked at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change in Atlanta, and was a TV commentator on CNN.

    April 26, 2006 - Snoop Dogg and his entourage arrested in London's Heathrow Airport for creating a disturbance when British Airways wouldn't allow the group into a first class lounge. After being escorted outside, there was a fight and seven police officers were injured. After a night in jail, the group is freed but Big Snoop Dogg has been banned from the U.K. and British Airways as a result of the melee.







    Born on this Day in History: April 26, 1933 - Carol Burnett (1933 - ) Born in San Antonio, Texas, comedian and actress Carol Burnett debuted in Broadway musical Once Upon a Mattress (1959), and went on to a stellar TV career, including The Carol Burnett Show (1967-79). An accomplished singer and dancer, Burnett is known for her expressive face, full-throated voice and broad comic roles.

    April 22, 1934 - John Dillinger's gang shoots their way out of an FBI ambush outside the Little Bohemia Hunting Lodge in northern Wisconsin. The FBI accidentally kills one innocent bystander and injures two others in the humiliating debacle.

    April 20, 1979 - President Jimmy Carter is attacked by a Killer Swamp Rabbit, while on vacation in Plains GA. The rabbit swam menacingly towards him, and he had to repel the ferocious creature with a paddle. There were no injuries. Press Secretary Jody Powell leaked the story to the press, and the White House had a lot of explaining to do.





    Born on this Day in History
    April 20, 1923 - Tito Puente (1923 - 2000) Growing up in Spanish Harlem helped Tito Puente find the inspiration for his special fusion of Latin and jazz music. After founding the Tito Puente Orchestra in 1948, Puente became a music sensation. His more than 100 albums and 200 compositions won him five Grammys and earned him the title "The King of Latin Music."

    April 18, 1906 - A devastating earthquake strikes San Francisco at 5:13 a.m., followed by a major aftershock three hours later. More than 3,000 people are killed from either collapsing structures or any of the 59 separate fires which burn over the next three days. In the downtown area, the U.S. Army is forced to dynamite whole city blocks in order to contain the flames, due to the lack of water pressure.

    April 18, 1963 - Conan O'Brien (1963 - ) Born in Brookline, Massachusetts, comedian Conan O'Brien began his career as a writer for "Saturday Night Live" (1988-91) and "The Simpsons" (1992-93). In 2005, her collaboration with rocker Jack White won her another Grammy, and introduced her music to a new audience.
