Born on this Day in History: August 7, 1975 - Charlize Theron is an award-winning South African actress, film producer and former model. She grew up on her parents' farm. In 1991, her mother shot her father dead as an act if self defense. At age 16, Theron traveled to Milan to model; she soon moved to L.A. and was cast in a B grade film. She is perhaps best known for portraying the serial killer Aileen Wuornos in the 2003 film Monster. |
On this Day in History: August 7, 1947 - Kon-Tiki, a balsa wood raft captained by Norwegian anthropologist Thor Heyerdahl, completes a 4,300-mile, 101-day journey from Peru to Raroia in the Tuamotu Archipelago, near Tahiti. Heyerdahl wanted to prove his theory that prehistoric South Americans could have colonized the Polynesian islands by drifting on ocean currents. |
