On this Day in History: March 22, 1947 - U.S. President Harry Truman signs Executive Order 9835, beginning the Great Loyalty Crusade. 2,000,000 government employees were required to take oaths and submit to loyalty investigations; of those a mere 139 were terminated in the span of three years.
Born on this Day in History: March 22, 1976 - Reese Witherspoon (1976 - ) Born in Nashville, Tennessee, actress Reese Witherspoon answered a call for extras on a whim and, at age 14, wound up as the lead in her first film, The Man in the Moon (1990). She went on to star in box-office hit Legally Blonde (2001) and earned praise as June Carter Cash in 2005's Walk the Line. She also runs the production house, Type A Films.
