Born on this Day in History: September 12, 1981 - Jennifer Hudson (1981 - ) Chicago, Illinois, singer Jennifer Hudson wowed television viewers with her voice on TV competition, "American Idol" in 2004. Although she didn't win, the exposure landed her a role in the movie Dreamgirls in 2005. Her film debut won her a Golden Globe, an Oscar, and an Academy Award. In 2008, she released her first album, which won a Grammy.
