National Personal Chef Day - Today is National Personal Chef Day!

Created by the United States Personal Chef Association (USPCA), July 16 is National Personal Chef Day and celebrates personal chefs and the unique service they perform—preparing meals for busy households, seniors, those with special dietary needs, or kitchen menaces who need stay far from the kitchen.

If you have a personal chef, thank him or her for the delicious food they prepare for you every day. You might even consider giving him or her the day off—even if it means fending for yourself in the kitchen.

Stuffed Bell Peppers, In the News, and Enjoy

Stuffed Bell Peppers - Laura and I produced what was most assuredly the tastiest stuffed bell peppers ever created by man.

I cut a quantity of bell peppers lengthwise and removed the seeds, membranes, and stems.

Laura dropped the bell pepper halves into a pot of boiling water and par-boiled them for three minutes. She then plunged them into an ice-water bath to halt the cooking. After a few minutes, she removed them from the ice-water bath and arranged them in a large Pyrex dish.

I chopped, sliced, shredded, and diced the following:
    * half a large white onion
    *four large white mushrooms
    *12 garlic cloves
*two large sprigs of fresh sage
    *two large Jalapeño peppers
    *four small Thai peppers
    *one medium habanero pepper

Laura combined these ingredients with a pound of ground turkey breast in a large sauté pan, added various herbs and spices, and sautéed until all was fully cooked. She added a cup of cooked rice and eight ounces of marinara sauce and stirred until it was fully incorporated. She spooned this delightful filling into the waiting bell pepper halves.

She generously scattered shredded pizza cheeses atop the bell pepper halves and placed the dish in the oven, which was pre-heated to 325°. When the cheese was melted, the dish was removed from the oven and set aside to rest for a few minutes.

This was easily one of the tastiest meals ever enjoyed by humans.

We enjoyed this wonderful creation so enthusiastically that we devoured the balance Sunday evening!

    Food and Enjoy

Food - Here are some of our recent meals:

Friday evening, Laura produced one of her famous pizzas. As always, it was delicious!

Saturday evening, Laura made al dente Barilla Thick Spaghetti and served it with a wonderful marinara she created.

Sunday afternoon, Laura put a spicy dry rub on a nice, big hunk of pig and two boneless, skinless chicken breasts. I grilled the pig and chicken and a package of Johnsonville brats.

When the pig had sufficiently given himself over to the flame that a delightful bark formed on him, I swabbed him with Jesse James Barbecue Sauce.

Laura took over the tending of the pig. She turned and swabbed him every 20 minutes. She removed the brats and chicken and stowed them for our lunches. She was unable to contain her lust for the brats and chicken breasts, however, and she plucked morsels from them. The noises produced thereupon quickly made it impossible for me to resist, and Laura gave unto me small tastes of the chicken and brats. I drooled uncontrollably while daydreaming about the lunches that would be produced with these items.

The chicken breasts and brats will serve as lunches for us throughout the week. The pig offered up his charred flesh for our dining pleasure yesterday. I produced a stellar pot of ranch-style beans to accompany the pig to our table. It was a wonderful meal.

Laura obtained a large quantity of habanero peppers and an enormous hunk of ginger.

She will produce a large, incredibly tasty batch of Habanero Ginger Jelly from these items.

Laura bought a huge London Broil.

She will produce from it a large batch of her excellent beef jerky.

Yosemite National Park 123rd Anniversary, Stupid Criminals, and Enjoy

Yosemite National Park 123rd Anniversary - Today is the 123rd anniversary of Yosemite National Park.

Unfortunately, the park is closed on its birthday!

Yosemite and all U.S. national parks, monuments, and zoos were closed at midnight last night, after Congress failed to pass a new budget. The government shutdown comes at an ironic moment for Yosemite: today is the park’s birthday, and it will not be open for its own party.

"Yosemite" entered the American lexicon in 1851 when Lafayette Bunnell, a doctor with a California state battalion seeking Native Americans in the western U.S., named a swath of Californian land "Yosemite." That, he wrongly believed, was the name of the local Native American tribe.
