Stay Out of the Sun Day - Today is Stay Out of the Sun Day!

Stay Out of the Sun Day encourages us stay cool! This in most easily done in the shade. This will also give our skin a rest from the hot, damaging rays of the sun.

The sun is directly overhead, we are in early summer (summer begins each year on June 21), the temperatures are the hottest (this week, temperatures have hovered in the triple-digit realm—with the hottest day reportedly reaching 112°— and the sun is the brightest.

It is a good day to take a break from catching all of those rays and stay out of the sun.

Find some fun and relaxing ways to stay in the shade. A hammock strung behind two shady trees sounds like a great way to go!

Made in the USA Day, Breakfast, In the News, and Enjoy

Made in the USA Day - Today is Made in the USA Day!

It is always important that we buy only products bearing a "Made in the USA" label! By attention to this, we are promoting products manufactured in the USA—as well as products assembled in the USA.

We must also encourage litigation and legislative activity to strengthen and uphold labeling laws and standards.

On this day, (and on ALL days!) we should encourage American values around the world—having special concern for evironmental standards, labor rights, and human rights. We should eliminate child labor fully.

Most importantly, we must work to create good-paying jobs in the USA and a sustainable, environmentally sound, and healthy economy.

Happy Valentine's Day, Dinner, Breakfast, In the News, and Enjoy

Happy Valentine's Day - Happy Valentine's Day! St. Valentine's Day began as a liturgical celebration of one or more early Christian saints named Valentinus.

Dinner - We enjoyed an excellent salad for dinner last evening. It consisted of mixed Italian greens, pear tomatoes, cucumber, green onion, white mushrooms, red bell peppers, baby carrots, marinated asparagus spears, and artichoke hearts. It was absolutely delicious!

Breakfast - Laura surprised me sweetly with a beautiful Valentine's Day breakfast! She created a wonderful breakfast of oven fries, fried eggs, and tri-tip steak! What an excellent way to begin the celebration of Valentine's Day!

Stuffed Bell Peppers, In the News, and Enjoy

Stuffed Bell Peppers - Laura and I produced what was most assuredly the tastiest stuffed bell peppers ever created by man.

I cut a quantity of bell peppers lengthwise and removed the seeds, membranes, and stems.

Laura dropped the bell pepper halves into a pot of boiling water and par-boiled them for three minutes. She then plunged them into an ice-water bath to halt the cooking. After a few minutes, she removed them from the ice-water bath and arranged them in a large Pyrex dish.

I chopped, sliced, shredded, and diced the following:
    * half a large white onion
    *four large white mushrooms
    *12 garlic cloves
*two large sprigs of fresh sage
    *two large Jalapeño peppers
    *four small Thai peppers
    *one medium habanero pepper

Laura combined these ingredients with a pound of ground turkey breast in a large sauté pan, added various herbs and spices, and sautéed until all was fully cooked. She added a cup of cooked rice and eight ounces of marinara sauce and stirred until it was fully incorporated. She spooned this delightful filling into the waiting bell pepper halves.

She generously scattered shredded pizza cheeses atop the bell pepper halves and placed the dish in the oven, which was pre-heated to 325°. When the cheese was melted, the dish was removed from the oven and set aside to rest for a few minutes.

This was easily one of the tastiest meals ever enjoyed by humans.

We enjoyed this wonderful creation so enthusiastically that we devoured the balance Sunday evening!

    One Is What One Eats

One Is What One Eats - Laura continues her vacation in Tucson, where she is visiting with friends and family. I miss her, of course, as do the kitties, Zeus and Thor. We must eat, however, and with Laura away, dining chores fall fully upon me. Last evening’s dinner was tasty indeed. It featured a New York strip steak that I marinated overnight with minced garlic, extra-virgin olive oil, ground black pepper, red pepper flakes, granulated garlic, and ground basil. As the steak grilled, I sautéed sliced white mushrooms and baby sweet peppers in extra-virgin olive oil, minced garlic, and Pappy’s seasoning.

The kitties enjoyed their usual dry cat food. For a dinnertime treat, I gave them a serving of Seafood Medley kitty treats. I have no photograph of this to offer. I did, however, photograph last evening's dinner!

This morning's meal was not nearly as succulent as last evening's meal, yet it was very healthful and tasty!

I enjoyed a banana, four huge strawberries, and a toasted Jalapeno bagel with cream cheese.

The wonderful (80+) warm weather we have been enjoying has departed us—likely until next spring. It was wonderful while it lasted. Today, the high is forecast to be a mere 54 degrees! Rather than complain, however, I shall simply treasure my memories of warmer days and anticipate with great enthusiasm the return of the warmth!

Laura produced another stellar breakfast this morning. I so hungered for it that when she brought it to the table, she found me immobile—great quantities of drool seeping from my mouth, my eyes glazed and fixed, my pulse rapid and irregular—producing odd animal-like sounds. She placed THIS before me:
