Sushi and Enjoy

Sushi - We had fully intended to dine upon the wonderful tri-tip we enjoyed Sunday. However: We were in Chico, I was driving, and I found that I was drawn inexorably to Big Tuna!

Big Tuna is a wonderful, small, out-of-the way sushi bistro that is a favorite of ours.

Big Tuna Sushi Bistro
We enjoyed Spider Rolls (fried soft-shell crab, cucumber, and gobo)

Calamari Rings (Panko-breaded calamari rings)

Hamachi Rolls (yellowtail tuna)

Cucumber Sunomono (cucumber slices marinated in rice wine vinegar)

and Seared Tuna (with asparagus and mushrooms in soy butter sauce)

The food was wonderful.

Food, In the News, and Enjoy

Food - I produced a tasty dinner last evening. The recipe for my famous Panko-encrusted Chicken Livers and Calrose Rice appears in yesterday's blog post.

Tonight, Laura will make one of her wonderful pizzas. Here are some images from a recent pizza she made.

Book Lovers Day, Chicken Livers, and Enjoy!

Book Lovers Day - Book Lovers Day encourages one to find a place in the shade to relax with a good book.

Book reading is a great hobby. It is also an important one. Employers look for it on résumés. Reading is educational, informative, and relaxing.

Book Lovers Day is a great day to celebrate. Celebrating Book Lovers Day is pleasurable on the deck, under a shady tree, poolside, or in a cozy hammock. If you fall asleep while reading, that is okay. It is all part of the relaxing benefits of being a book lover.

I generally read 3 - 5 books weekly. I read them in eBook format, using the Amazon Kindle Reader on my Nexus 7 2013 or my Samsung Galaxy S4. I often hear people espouse the superiority of experience holding and reading a physical, paper book. I fully disagree and find it more intimate and compelling reading by electronic means.

Chicken Livers - Laura and I enjoy chicken livers. I made our favorite chicken liver recipe for dinner last evening.

I cook Jasmine rice in the microwave: I place one cup of rice and two cups of water in a casserole dish. I cover with a damp paper towel and cook on high for five minutes. I stir the rice and cook for another five minutes. I rinse the chicken livers and coat them with panko bread crumbs. I sauté the chicken livers in extra-virgin olive oil until brown and crisp. I add chopped green onions and crushed red peppers, stir to incorporate, and pour over the rice. I place the lid on the casserole dish and take it to the table.

We use generous amounts of sriracha sauce as a condiment. This is a wonderful, delightful meal!

Chicken Livers - Over the years, I have encountered many who express a contempt of chicken livers. Some allow this fear and loathing to manifest itself—resulting in hideous facial contortion and guttural speech sounds—the primary place of articulation being near the back of the oral cavity.

Laura and I, however, are aficianados of chicken liver cuisine!

I have determined that these chicken-liver haters are—for the most part—Democrats. Characteristically, they eschew the unfamiliar and profess their positions to be based upon scientific observation—unwilling to admit their belief system is fully flawed and solely annecdotal.

I do not recall having a conversation with a lucid individual that included a discussion of chicken livers—during the course of which discussion it was professed that chicken livers had been eaten and not enjoyed!

Laura produced a dinner last evening that featured chicken livers. The dinner was delightful. In preparation, I thoroughly rinsed a package of Foster Farms chicken livers, patted them dry, and coated them with a mixture of Panko bread crumbs, Italian seasoning, onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder, and red pepper flakes. Laura expertly sautéed them in extra-virgin olive oil—resulting in chicken livers that were crispy on the outside and delightfully firm yet tender on the inside. She steamed two packages of chicken-flavored rice with slivered carrots and broccoli. We used Oriental hot mustard and sriracha sauce as condiments. It was a wonderful meal.
