Willow Creek, In the News, and Enjoy

Willow Creeek - Willow Creek somehow received a rating of 5.3 on Internet Movie Database

I have no idea how this was achieved. I feel it earns a rating of 2.0 or less! This movie is abysmal! And I am being kind!

Unless you are an aficionado of The Blair Witch Project and think that movie to have earned high critical acclaim, I seriously recommend that you do not waste your time viewing Willow Creek!

National Tortilla Chip Day, In the News, and Enjoy

National Tortilla Chip Day - Today is National Tortilla Chip Day. Tortilla chips are generally made from corn or flour tortillas. The chips may be either fried or baked.

Tortilla chips are considered a Mexican food, however they originated in Los Angeles.

During the late 1940's a couple, the Carranzas, ran a tortilla factory. They had the idea to cut tortillas into triangles and fry them.

They sold them by the bag, and the tortilla chip began to compete with the corn chip.

National Strawberry Ice Cream Day, In the News, and Enjoy

National Strawberry Ice Cream Day - Today is National Strawberry Ice Cream Day!

The ice cream we know and love today evolved from ancient flavored ices. As early as 3000 BC, people in China served their guests sweet juices mixed with ice or snow.

While fruity ice cream flavors are still popular today, vanilla and chocolate are the clear favorites. According to a survey conducted by the International Ice Cream Association, strawberry is the third most popular ice cream flavor, favored by 5.3% of the population.

Dolley Madison served strawberry ice cream at President Madison’s second Inaugural Ball in 1813?

Treat yourself to a delicious bowl (or two!) to celebrate National Strawberry Ice Cream Day!

National Tempura Day, In the News, and Enjoy

National Tempura Day - Today is National Tempura Day!

Tempura is a delicious deep fried Japanese dish made with lightly battered vegetables and seafood.

The original cooking technique is actually attributed to the Portuguese, who landed in Japan in the sixteenth century to establish new trade routes.

The word "tempura" is also related to the European roots of the dish. It comes from the Latin phrase "quattuor tempora" meaning "Ember Days." This term refers to the days when fish or vegetables were eaten instead of meat.

Tempura batter is made with cold water and wheat flour. Some recipes also call for eggs, baking soda, oil, or spices for extra flavoring. A traditional tempura will usually include shrimp, scallops, eggplant, green beans, sweet potato, mushrooms, or bamboo.
