Gun Control: Control Your Gun - I have a nice A/V system at my office. It consists of a 39" Vizio LCD HDTV, an Onkyo HT-S3500 5.1-Channel Home Theater receiver, 5 speakers, a powered sub-woofer, Chromecast, Fire TV, and Roku.
I spoke last week of my enjoyment of classic television programs. I spoke of how YouTube has a great many classic television programs available for viewing, and I gave some examples.
YouTube is a great resource for instructional videos of all types. For example, I shall soon be upgrading the magazine release on a Ruger 10/22 rifle—installing an extended magazine release that will more efficiently accommodate changing magazines. This upgrade is of particular interest to Californians, since this state allows a maximum magazine capacity of 10 rounds.
Searching for "Ruger 10/22 extended magazine release," for example, returns several links to videos showing how this upgrade is accomplished.
YouTube has a great many videos dealing with gun control. In this venue, "gun control" refers to controlling guns, that is, hitting the target.
Gun safety is critical. Hitting the target means one is not hitting something other than the intended target!
Practice is important in any sport, and it is of particular importance with regard to shooting sports.

The Power of Prayer, Gun Control, and GoPro!
The Power of Prayer - I do not recall ever doubting the incredible power of prayer. I have experienced examples of this throughout my life. Gun Control - I recently had a client enter my office with a question regarding configuring a wireless router in her home office. She turned and gazed upon the 39" Vizio LCD HDTV—drawn to do so by what she heard emanating from the 8-speaker Onkyo surround sound system. The pros and cons of "gun control" were being debated. She said, "Seems simple enough to me. Take the guns away and people won't shoot each other anymore. And if somebody's got a good reason to have a gun like to hunt with they sure don't need high-powered military guns that hold lots of bullets to hunt with." GoPro! - Enjoy these GoPro videos! I have a GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition and many accessories for it. I am, however, not sufficiently brave to attempt what you will see here!
Yesterday, when I arrived at my office, I found that Hal (my main desktop system) was unresponsive. Restarting him had no positive outcome. I initiated Windows 7 Startup Repair. This generally works well when servicing others' systems. It failed fully the three times I attempted it.
I then initiated Windows 7 System Restore. I chose the latest restore point available.
This failed—as did the subsequent two attempts using prior restore points.
I located the re-installation DVDs provided by HP for Hal. I did not find the prospect of starting anew and needing to load and configure and associate all applications! (All Hal's data is on drive D:)
I prayed. I thanked God for giving me the wisdom necessary to choose the proper restore point, and I thanked Him for giving me the peace of mind and patience necessary to accomplish the repairs.
I clearly sensed that God—through the Holy Spirit—pointed to a restore point at the very bottom of the list of available restore points. This seemed an unlikely candidate, yet I knew that God does not err, and His instructions are to be followed precisely and without question.
Unlikely though it seemed, the restore point to which God directed me was efficacious! It was a long process, and it would have been a simple matter for me to simply "give up" and employ the HP Recovery Media. I did not. Faith kept me calm and emboldened me. I knew Hal would be restored!
Hal successfully started and has operated flawlessly since then! Praise God!
I said, "That is not simple. It is simplistic. It is also simple-minded."
Before she was able to successfully stem the flow of Thorazine-induced drool that fell copiously upon her chin from the gaping maw that was formed of her mouth, I continued: "There are two key issues that apparently elude you: Taking firearms away from law-abiding citizens simply and effectively results in firearm ownership only by law enforcement, the military, and criminals. The Second Amendment provides for the ownership of firearms by law-abiding citizens not for hunting. It provides for the ownership of firearms by law-abiding citizens to protect themselves from oppression and tyranny."
She offered no counterpoint.

International Sushi Day, Laughing at Siri, and Gun Control
International Sushi Day - Today is International Sushi Day. I salivate copiously as I write, since sushi is easily my favorite of all things edible! Sushi really has nothing to do with raw fish. It refers to the vinegar-seasoned rice used in making what we refer to as sushi. Laughing at Siri - Microsoft laughs at Siri!
There are many types of this dish that are generically (often wrongly) called "sushi." Sashimi is simply slices of raw fish (often salmon or tuna). It is not served with the sushi rice. Nigiri is made from forming a handful of rice into a mound, and placing a piece of seafood over the top. Maki rolls are made from wrapping sushi rice and various fillings inside a seaweed wrapper.
Maki rolls have had the most variations created in Western society. For example, the "California Roll" is made with avocado, imitation crab, and cucumber. There is also the inside-out California Roll that has the rice on the outside. The "Philadelphia Roll" has smoked salmon, cream cheese, and cucumber. the "Texas Roll" has tuna, avocado, cucumber, and is rolled in crushed French-fried onions.
And that little mound of green paste next to your sushi? That is wasabi. It is goooooood!

World Press Freedom Day - The United Nations General Assembly declared May 3 to be World Press Freedom Day (or just World Press Day) to raise awareness of the importance of freedom of the press and remind governments of their duty to respect and uphold the right to freedom of expression enshrined under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and marking the anniversary of the Declaration of Windhoek, a statement of free press principles put together by African newspaper journalists in 1991. If God didn't want us to have guns - He wouldn'ta given us trigger fingers!
UNESCO marks World Press Freedom Day by conferring the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize on a deserving individual, organization or institution that has made an outstanding contribution to the defense and/or promotion of press freedom anywhere in the world, especially when this has been achieved in the face of danger. Created in 1997, the prize is awarded on the recommendation of an independent jury of 14 news professionals. Names are submitted by regional and international non-governmental organizations working for press freedom and by UNESCO member states.
The Prize is named in honor of Guillermo Cano Isaza, a Colombian journalist who was assassinated in front of the offices of his newspaper, El Espectador, in Bogota, on 17 December 1986. Cano's writings had offended Colombia's powerful drug barons.

Gun Control, Parks and Recreation, Hack, The Bible, and Monday Madness
Gun Control - The gun buyback program is a great success in Chicago! "Parks and Recreation" and "Hack" - Laura and I enjoy watching commercial-free television series on Netflix and Amazon. All episodes of the programs we choose to watch are generally available, making it an enjoyable process to watch an entire series of episodes at whatever pace we choose. Because there are no commercials, half-hour programs become 21-23 minutes, and hour-long programs become 41-43 minutes. Generally, we have a comedy and a drama that we watch—alternating between the two depending upon our mood.
Currently, we are watching the comedy series, "Parks and Recreation." Parks and Recreation is an American comedy television series on the NBC television network, starring Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope, a perky, mid-level bureaucrat in the parks department of Pawnee, a fictional town in Indiana. It was conceived by Greg Daniels and Michael Schur and debuted on April 9, 2009. Currently in its fifth season, it uses a single-camera, mockumentary filming style, with the implication being that a documentary crew is filming everyone.
We are also watching the dramatic series, "Hack." When corruption charges strip him of his job, his family and his pride, former cop Mike Olshansky (David Morse) forges a new identity as a Philadelphia cab driver, patrolling the city as a roving vigilante who works with local police.
"The Bible" - We generally do not buy DVDs, since we have access to thousands of movies and television programs via instant streaming from Netflix and Amazon. An exception to this, however, was our purchase of "The Bible." "The Bible" is a television miniseries based on the Bible. It is produced by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett and was broadcast weekly between March 3 and March 31, 2013 on History Channel. Burnett considers the scripted 10-hour series to be the "most important" project he has undertaken. The project was conceived by Burnett and Downey, who are married, after watching Cecil B. DeMille's version of The Ten Commandments for the first time since childhood. The series is Mark Burnett's first scripted project. In addition to Burnett and Downey, executive producers include Richard Bedser and History's Dirk Hoogstra and Julian P. Hobbs.

Telemarketers and Fun
Telemarketers and Fun - I realize you are probably thinking that telemarketers and fun are mutually exclusive, diametrically opposed, and in all ways counter-point to each other.
Generally, I would fully agree. At times, however, I find that relaxing, cavorting, capering, chortling, and in all ways seeking and enjoying humor leads necessarily to one having fun. Eschewing telemarketers while enjoying a healthy hoot prepares one fully for the day—no matter what might lurk in the hours ahead!

Each successful stunt or zombie kill gives you coins that you can use to buy cars and weapons. Hypocrisy,
Hypocrisy - I have never considered Stephen King to be a great author. He has certainly attained mass popularity, but I do not consider popularity to be a determinant by which literature, music, or food should be judged. Were it so, a pimple-faced teen flipping patties at the local Burger King would easily outpace Wolfgang Puck as a paradigm of epicurean artistry.
Regardless of Stephen King's lack of achievement with concern to the characteristics of literature or scholarly writing, one pronouncement regarding King's writing must be given him: He is generally accepted as the modern-day master of horror.
Eschewing the parallel drawn by critics of questionable merit between the writings of Stephen King and those of Edgar Allan Poe—truly a masterful author and literary genius—as common sense and a concern for maintaining the integrity of Poe's legacy demand, one must nonetheless accept that King's writings have certainly earned their classification in the "horror" genre.
I admit to having read several of King's books and short stories. I found them entertaining—albeit pedestrian—and agree quickly that his introduction and development of horror themes in his works is that for which he is best known. Although I would not go so far as to consider myself a "fan," I have enjoyed many of his tales.
From this date forward, however, I shall never read anything he produces; nor shall I view any movie based upon his writing.
King is himself a gun owner. He owns several handguns and rifles at his suburban Maine home.
In an essay/rant he recently published, however, his hypocrisy is astounding:
"One only wishes Wayne LaPierre and his NRA board of directors could be drafted to some of these scenes, where they would be required to put on booties and rubber gloves and help clean up the blood, the brains, and the chunks of intestine still containing the poor wads of half-digested food that were some innocent bystander's last meal."
This is an hypocrisy that is mirrored by many of the entertainment industry. It is an hypocrisy founded solely upon the most basic "do as I say—not as I do" ethic that is, unfortunately, rampant currently among those who are purveyors of horror and gore—by which they approach, attract, and entertain their fan base—all the while moronically supporting an anti-gun platform that runs fully counterpoint to their professional lives.

TGIF, Taxes, and Gun Control
TGIF - TGIF, Indeed! It seems to me that this year is passing very quickly. I realize that, in actuality, such is an impossibility: Each day is of equal length, each week equals the time of the prior week, and so on and so on and so forth. Taxes - I e-filed our state and federal income tax returns earlier this week. I cannot explain why I avoid doing this, since the process is relatively simple and takes but a few minutes. I use QuickBooks(r) to do my accounting throughout the year, and I use TurboTax(r) to prepare and e-file my returns. TurboTax(r) quickly and easily grasps the information it needs from QuickBooks(r), and the entire process takes but 20 minutes or so. Gun Control - As I have said many times, "Gun control is all a matter of shot placement!"
Nonetheless—although it is, I realize, only a sensation and not a reality—it does truly seem that this year is passing quickly. It is nearly February, and I do not have a clear sensation that January has nearly passed. Perchance this feeling is simply a result of the general malaise under the thrall of which I have fallen and the desire for this season to pass quickly.
I cry out for sunshine, warmth, blue skies, and singing birds. It seems that as years pass and age accumulates upon me, more and more I long for the kinder, gentler time of yesteryear: Television and movies mirror the moral decay that has taken place during the last decade, at most.
All this was, certainly, predicated upon the removal of prayer from schools. This allowed the moral fabric of this nation to decay to such an extent that philosophical belief systems that previously had been patently unacceptable became fully acceptable—while we slept, as it were—and that which previously had been considered immoral became the "new normal."
I cling to the values of old and eschew all else. I am in the world, yet I am not of the world!

Cold Weather, Ted Nugent, Gun Control, and the New Jeep Grand Cherokee
Cold Weather - It was a frosty 28° when I slithered into Mr. Nitro R/T this morning. His windshield was encased within a carapace of rime. Fortunately, the windshield washer fluid was not frozen, and a few squirts and a few swipes of the wipers cleared the windshield nicely. Ted Nugent - Ted Nugent—or "Uncle Ted," as he is very affectionately known to his millions of fans—was rocking arenas when most extant rock stars were in diapers. He continues to rock hard today and is a true rock legend. He is also an avid hunter, gun and bow enthusiast, and strong supporter and defender of the Second Amendment.
Not far from here, temperatures of 4° were reported. This news did not, however, cause me to feel significantly warmer!
On his Web site—Ted Nugent Ammo, he thoroughly endorses and supports the hunting lifestyle and the right of the individual to keep and bear arms. He also markets high-quality ammunition in most popular calibers.
