Gunpowder Day, In the News, and Enjoy

Gunpowder Day - Today is Gunpowder Day!

In 1603, King James I took the throne in England. An avid Protestant, he began persecuting Catholics. He forbid Catholics from practicing their religion ,and punished Catholics who did not convert to the Protestant church.

The Gunpowder Conspirators were a group of Catholics who sought to take action against the king. They plotted to blow up the British Houses of Parliament. They planned to do so, when the king and his supporters were in the buildings.

Their plot was uncovered on November 5, 1605. Thirty six barrels of gunpowder were found in the basement of Parliament. Guy Fawkes, the leader of the conspiracy, was arrested and tortured until he confessed. He was arrested just as he was about to ignite the gunpowder.

How do people in England celebrate Gunpowder Day? They do so, with fireworks and bonfires.

    Federal Government Shutdown and Enjoy

Federal Government Shutdown - How will the shutdown of the Federal Government affect me?

  • I have my costume chosen for this year's Halloween: I am going as the ghost of the Federal Government!

  • Remember: We must go to work today in order to help pay the salaries of Congressmen who do not go to work today!

  • Will this shutdown affect the taste of my nachos?

    Short answer: No.

Long answer: It should not. The government shutdown causes many nonessential federal employees to be placed on furlough, but it should not affect the way that cheese tastes when melted onto tortilla chips and dipped into salsa.

  • I like eating nachos outside. What does the shutdown mean for me?

    Short answer: Nothing.

Long answer: Eating nachos outside rocks. Sipping on a brew, taking a bite of some spicy nachos and then breathing that crisp, fall air—nothing better than that. Just do not expect to eat nachos in one of our National Parks, because they are closed because of the shutdown. Nothing enhances the majesty of Yosemite like a plate of nachos; but for now, it is just not happening.

  • I am waiting for a Federal loan to start a small business selling nachos. What's up?

Short answer: A lot is up.

Long answer: Your Federal small business loan will not be processed while this government shutdown is in effect.

They Walk Among Us and Reasons to Vote GOP in 2014

They Walk Among Us - These are outstanding examples of why there should be mandatory minimum IQ standards imposed on candidates for public office:

CO Democrat Doesn't Understand High-Capacity Magazines Can Be Reloaded

Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO): "I will tell you these are ammunition, they’re bullets, so the people who have those now they’re going to shoot them, so if you ban them in the future, the number of these high capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available." (April 2, 2013, Denver Post forum)

CO Dem Rep Tells Senior Citizen "You'd Probably Be Dead Anyway"

Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) strikes again and insults a senior citizen concerned about how he is supposed to defend himself against criminals who have high-capacity magazines if they are banned. She says to wait for the police and otherwise he'd "probably be dead anyway."

Obama: Michelle Told Me "If I Was Living Out In A Farm In Iowa, I'd Probably Want A Gun"

PRESIDENT OBAMA: "And I told the story about two conversations I had. The first conversation was when Michelle came back from doing some campaigning out in rural Iowa. And we were sitting at dinner, and she had been to like a big county, a lot of driving out there, a lot of farmland. And she said, if I was living out in a farm in Iowa, I'd probably want a gun, too. If somebody just drives up into your driveway and you're not home -- you don't know who these people are and you don't know how long it's going to take for the sheriffs to respond. I can see why you'd want some guns for protection. That's one conversation."

Gun Control - then Tyranny, Camps, Police State, Death:

Top 12 Reasons to Vote Democrat

Top 12 Reasons to Vote Democrat - I was chatting with a client this morning, and she made a statement that stunned me to such a degree that I immediately felt weakened, short of breath, dizzy, and unable to focus clearly. I stumbled to my chair, fell into it, took a large swallow of spring water, and said, "Certainly, mine ears failed me! I imagined you said that you voted Democrat." She assured me that is what she said. I fell into a delirium.

After a time, my breathing stabilized, my vision cleared, and I said, "Surely you have misread today's calendar and imagine it to be April 1st!" She assured me she was serious, and she listed her Top 12 Reasons for Voting Democrat:

  • 1. I voted Democrat because I love the fact that I can now marry whatever I want. I've decided to marry my German Shepherd.
  • 2. I voted Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene, but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.
  • 3. I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.
  • 4. I voted Democrat because Freedom of Speech is fine as long as nobody Is offended by it.
  • 5. I voted Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.
  • 6. I voted Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if It will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a GM Chevy Volt.
  • 7. I voted Democrat because I'm not concerned about millions of babies being aborted so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.
  • 8. I voted Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health-care, education, and Social Security benefits, and we should take away the social security from those who paid into it.
  • 9. I voted Democrat because I believe that businesses should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the Democrats see fit.
  • 10. I voted Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.
  • 11. I voted Democrat because I think that it's better to pay billions for oil to people who hate us, than to drill our own because it might upset some endangered beetle, gopher or fish.
  • 12. I voted Democrat because my head is so firmly planted up my behind it's unlikely that I'll ever have another point of view.
