National Cookie Day - Today is National Cookie Day!

The English word "cookie" is derived from the Dutch word "koekje," which means little cake.

Dutch bakers used to test oven temperatures on small amounts of batter so that they would not waste the entire cake mix if the temperature was not right. It was not long before they discovered that these tiny pieces of cooked batter were actually quite tasty!

Cookies come in all different flavors, shapes, and sizes. To celebrate National Cookie Day, bake a few batches of your favorite variety and invite your friends over for a cookie swap!

Nachos Birthday, In the News, and Enjoy

Nachos Birthday - Today is the birthday of the original nachos in 1943 by Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya.


Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya (c. 1894 – 1975) was a Mexican restaurateur credited as the inventor of nachos.

Anaya was living in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, across the border from Eagle Pass, Texas, USA, and had a restaurant called the El Moderno there, when he invented nachos and served them at the restaurant as "Nachos Especiales."

The original form of nachos, as made by Nacho Anaya, included fried tortilla chips topped with melted cheese and jalapeños.

National Chili Dog Day - Today is National Chili Dog Day!

July is also National Hot Dog Month! According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, Americans are expected to eat 7 billion hot dogs from Memorial Day to Labor Day. And during the month of July, 10 % of the annual retail hot dogs sales occur.

There are many ways to enjoy the infamous hot dog and one of my favorites happens to be the chili dog. Here are some of the ways I enjoy them.
