National Pasta Day, In the News, and Enjoy

World Clock by Poodwaddle.com

National Pasta Day - Today is National Pasta Day!

Linguine, fettuccine, spaghetti, tortellini, zit—the list of pastas is endless! Pasta is typically thought of as an Italian dish, but there is evidence that people living in Asia in 2000 BC made noodles with millet.

Pasta can be made dry (pasta secca) or fresh (pasta fresca). There are over 350 varieties of dried pasta in Italy. The highest quality of dried pasta is made with pure durum semolina flour and water.

A typical Italian person eats over sixty pounds of pasta per year? In comparison, Americans only eat around twenty pounds of pasta per person per year!

To celebrate National Pasta Day, enjoy a delightful dish of your favorite type of pasta topped with a scrumptious sauce!

    Happy National Velociraptor Awareness Day!

Happy National Velociraptor Awareness Day! - As I meander about, I find that people are very aware of the threat posed by zombies, and most are prepared to do battle with a zombie horde. Few. however, appear to be similarly aware of the threat posed by velociraptors, and most are ill-prepared to deal with a velociraptor swarm.

The American Society for Velociraptor Attack Prevention is an excellent resource for information regarding velociraptors and methodologies for dealing with them.

Here is a brief overview of information available from the ASVA: Know the Enemy

  • The velociraptor is a bipedal carnivore with a long, stiffened tail and can be distinguished from other dromaeosaurids by its long and low skull, with an upturned snout. It bores a relatively large, sickle-shaped claw, typical of dromaeosaurid and troodontid dinosaurs. This enlarged claw, up to 67 millimeters (2.6 in) long around its outer edge, is a predatory device, used to tear into the prey, delivering a fatal blow.
  • Velociraptors are often found on tropical islands, converted to millionaire amusement parks, but are commonly being sighted in the Pacific Northwest. Of the essential facts you should know about velociraptors:

  • Velociraptors hunt in packs, and are known to form an equilateral triangle around their prey. Velociraptors can accelerate 4 m/s2, with a top speed of 25 m/s on open terrain, 10 m/s while wounded, and 10 m/s in indoor laboratories.

  • Velociraptors can open doors, but are slowed by them. They can open an initial door in approximately 5 minutes, and will take half that time for each subsequent door.

  • Velociraptors do not know fear.
