Poultry Day, In the News, and Enjoy

Poultry Day - Today is Poultry Day!

Poultry Day celebrates chicken, turkey and other birds we commonly consume. Chicken and turkey are lower in fat and cholesterol than other meats. Poultry meat is more healthful than beef or pork.

    Poultry also provides eggs.

    Thanksgiving Dinner

Thanksgiving Dinner - Thanksgiving dinner was wonderful. Laura and I created a beautiful meal.

Laura brought an excellent assortment of hot peppers that were grown in the garden at Sierra Nevada. We incorporated these peppers into every aspect of the meal!

Laura and I made a great team. She selected and washed ingredients and brought them to me. I chopped, sliced, and diced while she cubed sourdough bread, toasted it, and set it aside for the dressing.

We produced a stellar vegetable dish featuring sautéed Brussels sprouts.

I thoroughly coated the turkey breast with pesto. I peeled back the skin, rubbed the breast with pesto sauce, and replaced the skin. I began cooking the turkey bone-down in a large sauté pan and finished it in the conventional oven.

When the turkey was done, I removed and discarded the skin.

I then sliced the turkey breast and set aside the breast bones and the turkey meat that clung to it. This I used as a basis for a wonderful turkey soup I produced yesterday.

We produced a great red potato dish.

The star of the meal was the dressing!

Telemarketers, In the News, and Enjoy

Telemarketers - Telemarketers are sub-human entities that fall easily under the heading of "time vampires," since they suck one's free time and bleed one of one's virtual blood.

I have registered my telephone numbers with the National Do Not Call Registry. I have done so many times, in fact, and the calls continue.

When a telemarketer calls, I generally do not answer. I either allow the phone to continue ringing until the telemarketer grows weary and disconnects, or I open the line and say nothing—leaving the vile creature to occupy himself with the sounds of whatever movie or television show I am watching.

When time permits, I entertain myself by answering, "You have reached a number that is no longer in service," or, "You have reached an active crime scene," or "I know who you are; I saw what you did," etc.

Telemarketers are an abhorrent group. The only group that I find more loathsome is spammers. I must stop there, else I would certainly fall quickly into a spewing so opprobrious that I would thereby embarrass even the most seasoned of visitors!

Thanksgiving Dinner, In the News, and ENjoy

Thanksgiving Dinner - Laura and I shall enjoy our traditional Thanksgiving Dinner:

  • Turkey Breast (Laura will brine the turkey breast, and we shall roast it on our Weber grill)
  • Herbed Red Potatoes (quartered red potatoes, sliced Jalapeños, and whole garlic cloves brushed with olive oil and cooked on the grill)
  • Cranberry Sauce (with whole cranberries)
  • Turkey Gravy
  • Green Beans (fresh green beans, parboiled then sautéed with sliced fresh garlic, slivered white onions, sliced white onions, and julienned Roma tomatoes
  • David's Famous Sausage Dressing

(RECIPE: Cut a loaf of sourdough bread into 1/2-inch cubes. Spread evenly on a large baking sheet and bake in conventional oven for 30 minutes at 325 degrees or until crisp and brown. Set aside. Cook one pound of hot Italian sausage on medium heat in large sauté pan, stirring often. Add one large white onion, chopped; two large Jalapeño peppers, diced; four medium red, yellow, purple, and green bell peppers, chopped; two medium habanero peppers, finely chopped; four large celery stalks, chopped; 12 medium white mushrooms, sliced; 1 package of baby spinach; and 10 large cloves of garlic, peeled and minced. Season to taste with poultry seasoning, sage, rosemary, thyme, paprika, red pepper flakes, ground black pepper, and ground cumin. National Sausage Pizza Day, Taco Salad, In the News, and Enjoy

    World Clock by Poodwaddle.com

National Sausage Pizza Day - Today is National Sausage Pizza Day! YES!

We shall be celebrating this holiday by dining upon a sausage pizza made by Laura's loving hands. Here are some examples of her recent pizza creations:

Taco Salad - Laura produced a wonderful taco salad last evening. She used ground turkey instead of ground beef. She added a goodly amount of hot spices as well as my offerings: I diced a medium white onion, four large Jalapeño peppers, and 18 cloves of garlic.

The salad was delicious. Laura stowed a large quantity of the spicy turkey mixture in the freezer for future use.
