National Spicy Guacamole Day, In the News, and Enjoy

National Spicy Guacamole Day - Today is National Spicy Guacamole Day!

Serve avocados today and throughout the year for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and more. The possibilities are endless.

  • Picking Avocados: Select avocados that yield to gentle pressure when you squeeze them in the palm of your hand. If you are planning ahead for your celebration, look for avocados that are firm to the touch. They will ripen naturally in four to five days. You can speed up the process by placing them in a brown paper bag with an apple or banana and storing them at room temperature.

  • Cut, Twist & Spoon Avocados: Slice avocados lengthwise, cutting around the seed and twist to separate into two halves. Use a spoon to gently remove the seed.

  • Refrigerating Guacamole: Keep unused avocado or guacamole from oxidizing by adding lime or lemon juice. Store in an air-tight container or wrap tightly in clear plastic wrap to limit the surface area exposed to the air.

  • Guacamole Serving Suggestions: Tortilla chips are traditional, but there are alternatives. Serve your guacamole with crisp sliced vegetables; use it as a sandwich spread; top a burger with a dollop of guacamole; dress up grilled fish, chicken or pork; add a dash to an omelet. Your guacamole adventure is limited only by your imagination!

Triple-digit Weather Returns, In the News, and Enjoy!

Triple-digit Weather Returns - We had anticipated greatly a cooling trend. Weatherpeople predict triple-digit weather throughout the week.

Yesterday afternoon, it was so hot that the cooling system here at my office failed miserably!

I have constructed this device to combat the gruelingly hot temperatures! I hope it is effective!

Hot Weather, Nexus 7 2013, and TGIF!

Hot Weather - The hot weather from which we have been suffering for what seems an interminable period is forecast to continue through the weekend!

I enjoy summer, but this heat wave has well outlived its attractiveness! It is time for the temperature to fall below 100°!

During such periods, it is critical that one remains hydrated! One must be cautious to drink water throughout the day!

The weatherpeople predict that next week will see temperatures in the mid-to-high 90s in this area, and that will seem positively frosty compared to the 110°+ we have seen for the last several weeks!

One must be alert and watch for warning signs of heat stroke and what to do if one's pet becomes overheated!

Other than staying indoors, relaxing in air-conditioned comfort, it is difficult finding respite from the heat, and innovative measures must be employed!

Nexus 7 2013 - I have used a Nexus 7 2012 since its release last year. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and use it throughout the day. I also use an ASUS Transformer Prime Android tablet. It is awesome, but at times the size of the Transformer Prime makes it less comfortable to use than the relatively small size and weight of the Nexus 7.

I have a Nexus 7 2013 on order (along with a Google Chromecast dongle) and am excitedly awaiting its arrival.

TGIF - Enjoy the weekend, and be cautious of the hot weather!
