Look out, Sarah! He bites! Click to enlarge.

Tonight's Vice Presidential Debate will be an outstanding opportunity for Sarah Palin to assuage supports and astound critics!

I predicted Sarah Palin would be John McCain's choice for running mate long prior to the announcement. The nearly universal response was, "Who"? I have followed Palin's career for years with great interest, and when I made the prediction, I was certain that it would be greeted with disbelief. I was correct. When McCain announced his choice of Palin, however, many asked, "How in the world did you know?" The simple truth is I did not know! I sensed that McCain would choose her, and I expressed that sense as a prediction.

I will make another prediction: I predict that Sarah Palin will be victorious tonight and do so by a wide margin!

Go, Sarah!

Dirty Tricks! I make my prediction with the full knowledge that there are dark forces working to thwart Sarah Palin's victory. As if it were not sufficient that the moderator be selected—as was the moderator for the McCain-Biden debate—from the murky pond of ultra-liberal Obama enthusiasts at PBS, there is now the issue that the moderator of tonight's debate, Gwen Ifill, is apparently a book to come out the time the next president takes office, and the book is very favorable to Barack Obama!

Simply put, if Obama wins the presidency, Ifill's book will quickly become a best seller. For every 100,000 copies sold, Ifill will receive approximately $350,000! That certainly gives her a vested interest in Obama's election! John McCain was, quite simply, entirely too accepting of this choice of moderator (see today's video), and I believe Ifill should be replaced summarily!

The sky appears clearer this morning than it has been in many days. Blue sky is visible, and the smell of smoke from the fires is not as strong as it has been recently. Hopefully, these are signs that the fires that have been plaguing California are coming under control.

Rain? It is too early to be certain, but it appears today will not see the rain that was forecast. It is noticeably cooler this morning than it has been recently, but all is dry, and the sky appears clear. This could quickly change, of course, yet it is a pleasant notion that the weatherpeople have failed to accurately predict today's weather. Wait...what is this I see in my Web cam? SUNLIGHT! The sun is beginning to shine brightly. All may be well!

Saturday, Laura and I journeyed to Chico to Home Depot to replace the exploded microwave oven. I attempted to purchase the oven upon which we decided online but received a message that shipping to our Zip Code was unavailable. I felt that Corning was being slighted. When I entered the Zip Code for the Home Depot store in Chico, the same message appeared. Apparently, shipping is not available anywhere. That is interesting.

As we passed the Chico Mall, we noticed that the parking lot was completely filled. Not a single parking space was available. Yikes! When we reached Home Depot, however, there were several good parking spaces available. I parked Mr. Nitro in a secure area, and we strolled into the store. The microwave we desired was on display. There was none in inventory, however. We took the display oven and received a 10% discount. It is a beautiful 2.1 cu ft GE Profile oven with black body and stainless-steel front. It has enormous capacity and many features that were not present on the previous oven.

Last evening—following a delightful dinner of grilled London Broil, white onion, red potatoes, Jalapeños, and red bell pepper, we settled into our recliners and watched a Johnny Cash DVD. The new microwave made a wonderful batch of popcorn.

Quilt of Holes

As I faced my Maker at the last judgment, I knelt before the Lord along with all the other souls. Before each of us laid our lives like the squares of a quilt in many piles; an angel sat before each of us sewing our quilt squares together into a tapestry that is our life. But as my angel took each piece of cloth off the pile, I noticed how ragged and empty each of my squares was. They were filled with giant holes. Each square was labeled with a part of my life that had been difficult, the challenges and temptations I was faced with in everyday life. I saw hardships that I endured, which were the largest holes of all. I glanced around me. Nobody else had such squares. Other than a tiny hole here and there, the other tapestries were filled with rich color and the bright hues of worldly fortune. I gazed upon my own life and was disheartened.

My angel was sewing the ragged pieces of cloth together, threadbare and empty, like binding air. Finally the time came when each life was to be displayed, held up to the light, the scrutiny of truth. The others rose; each in turn, holding up their tapestries. So filled their lives had been. My angel looked upon me, and nodded for me to rise. My gaze dropped to the ground in shame. I hadn't had all the earthly fortunes. I had love in my life, and laughter. But there had also been trials of illness, and wealth, and false accusations that took from me my world, as I knew it. I had to start over many times. I often struggled with the temptation to quit, only to somehow muster the strength to pick up and begin again. I spent many nights on my knees in prayer, asking for help and guidance in my life. I had often been held up to ridicule, which I endured painfully, each time offering it up to the Father in hopes that I would not melt within my skin beneath the judgmental gaze of those who unfairly judged me. And now, I had to face the truth. My life was what it was, and I had to accept it for what it was. I rose and slowly lifted the combined squares of my life to the light. An awe-filled gasp filled the air. I gazed around at the others who stared at me with wide eyes.

Then, I looked upon the tapestry before me. Light flooded the many holes, creating an image, the face of Christ. Then our Lord stood before me, with warmth and love in His eyes. He said, “Every time you gave over your life to Me, it became My life, My hardships, and My struggles. Each point of light in your life is when you stepped aside and let Me shine through, until there was more of Me than there was of you.” May all our quilts be threadbare and worn, allowing Christ to shine through! God determines who walks into your life. It's up to you to decide who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let go. When there is nothing left but God, that is when you find out that God is all you need.

For dinner last evening, we had roast beef sandwiches and leftover pasta salad. Laura sautéed sliced white onion in extra-virgin olive oil until translucent and caramelized, added deli shaved roast beef and sautéed until slightly crispy, and placed sliced Monterey jack cheese atop this. She toasted 9-grain bread slices. When the cheese was melted, Laura divided the beef, onion, and cheese and placed atop a toast slice. We added garden tomato (a gift from my friend and business neighbor, Corey) slices and condiments (spicy brown mustard for Laura and spicy brown mustard and wasabi paste for me) and enjoyed a delightful meal.

The weatherpeople were right! It rained yesterday! It rained lightly for approximately 15 seconds. It rained sufficiently that the coating of dust on Mr. Nitro turned to mud. It was most unseemly for Mr. Nitro to appear in public in this condition. I took him to the car wash and cleaned him thoroughly. I then drove him to the river and back to air-dry him. He was most grateful.
