Clearing a Windows-based computer's memory without restarting the computer.

If you are running Windows-based computer you may find that after several days your system will begin running more slowly than usual.

Of course, you can simply restart the computer to remove any idle processes. But here is a simpler way:

1. Right click on an empty spot on the Desktop and select New - Shortcut.

2. Type %windir%\system32\rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks in the box.

3. Click Next.

4. Name this shortcut "Clear Memory."

5. Click Finish.

Now whenever your computer begins running slowly, simply click this shortcut to clear out your memory and get your computer running at a normal pace again.

Without the wind, it shall be fine weather indeed. Friday is CUHS Homecoming. The Homecoming parade shall begin at 3 PM and pass by my office. The hot weather returned over the weekend. It was in the low-to-mid 90s throughout the weekend. It is forecast to be 94 degrees today.

We had a Scrabble tournament Saturday. It resulted in a tie. We snacked upon guacamole, made with salsa I made earlier in the week, and Mission tortilla chips. For dinner, I grilled 24 enormous prawns, steamed some cauliflower, and made toasted garlic bread. I have no idea how we managed to eat all those prawns, but we did! They were indescribably succulent and delightful. They marinated in a mixture of extra-virgin olive oil, rice wine vinegar, powdered wasabi, Tony Chachere's More Spice, sea salt, granulated garlic, and ground ginger.

Sunday morning—following the early service at Harvest Christian Center—I produced a wonderful frittata. Laura taught in the nursery during the late service, and she was very pleasantly surprised to find the frittata awaiting her.

For dinner, I grilled two large top sirloin steaks and steamed whole kernel corn, peas, and salsa. It was excellent.

Hot and windy! That is the forecast. It reached 110 degrees yesterday, although the fierce wind that plagued us during the early morning subsided by late morning. Hopefully, the wind will abate similarly today. It is currently 86 degrees at 7:14 AM! It is predicted to be 108 degrees today, 110 degrees tomorrow, and drop to a relatively cool 99 degrees on Saturday and a frosty 89 degrees on Sunday.

I had an interesting photographic assignment yesterday: I was commissioned to photograph fraternal twins. I am not nearly as adept at guessing age as the people who do this on the midway at carnivals, but I estimate these twins were six months of age. The mother commissioned the shoot in order to have photographs to submit to a baby contest—the top prize for which is $50,000. It shall be interesting to see how these twins fare against the competition.

The Corning Olive Festival parade took place last Friday evening, and the Olive Festival events filled Woodson Park on Saturday. Slide shows created from photographs of these events will soon be available online, and I shall alert readers of their availability.

Laura tended the grill Saturday evening. She grilled huge top sirloin steaks, yellow squash, Jalapeños, red bell peppers, and white mushrooms. She marinated everything with a marinade that I prepared from extra-virgin olive oil, granulated garlic, ground ginger, rice wine vinegar, and Tony Chachere's More Spice. It was delicious.

Yesterday morning, I made a large frittata using leftovers from Saturday's dinner. I sliced leftover top sirloin, red bell pepper, Jalapeño, and yellow squash. I cubed red potatoes and steamed in the microwave with sliced white onion. I sautéed the onions and potatoes, and added the leftovers. Laura took over. She seasoned the mixture with Tony Chachere's More Spice, ground black pepper, and granulated garlic. She whisked six eggs and poured over the mixture. I sliced cheddar cheese. Laura added the cheese to the frittata when the eggs were done, took the sauté pan to the table, and allowed the frittata to rest for five minutes—allowing the cheese to melt perfectly. We enjoyed half of this delightful frittata, and the balance awaits our dining pleasure later this week.

For dinner last evening, I made grilled chicken wings. Laura made a batch of Fridays beer-batter onion rings. It was wonderful. I removed the wing ends from a dozen large chicken wings, placed the wings in a zip-lock bag, and covered with Louisiana hot sauce. The wings marinated in the sauce for 8 hours. I grilled the wings over a high flame until they were nicely charred on both sides, brushing with reserved marinade prior to turning. I then turned off the flame under the wings, left the flame high on the front burner, and continued grilling over indirect heat for 45 minutes—brushing with marinade each 10 minutes. It was wonderful. Three chicken wings remain and shall follow Laura to work this morning for her lunch.

It is HOT! When I arrived at my office this morning, it was 93 degrees inside my office! Yikes! I immediately engaged the air conditioning, of course. It shall be a hot day today. It was hot yesterday (over 113 degrees), but it was not nearly as hot early in the day as it is today. I enjoy summertime and warm temperatures, but this is a bit much—even for me!

Do you know that dogs can detect cancer and other serious illnesses and danger of fire?

Somehow they always know when they can 'go for a ride' before you even ask and how do those dogs and cats get home from hundreds of miles away?

I'm a firm believer that animals - and especially dogs - have keen insights into the Truth.

And you can't tell me that dogs can't sense a potentially terrible disaster well in advance.

Today is my birthday. It is also our wedding anniversary. Yesterday, I was
contemplating what I should make for dinner Friday evening, in celebration
of my birthday and our anniversary. (Although today is the actual date of
these events, Friday seemed a more suitable evening for celebrating them.)
Imagine my great surprise when the Big Brown Truck rolled up in front and
delivered a large Styrofoam container, containing beautiful bacon-wrapped
filet mignon steaks and molten lava cakes! My excellent friend from afar
(and regular reader/commenter here, Chris, sent this fine gift to me! No
longer did I need muse about what would be served at our celebratory dinner!

The weather was very warm over the weekend: Temperatures reached highs of 103 degrees on Saturday and 102 degrees on Sunday.

Saturday, I made Pacific ebi rolls—sushi rolls, made with ebi, green onion, and avocado. They were wonderful. Laura and I both declared that I must make sushi more often, since we both enjoy it a great deal.

Sunday, we had cheeseburgers and fries. I thinly sliced, poached, and dried four large white mushrooms. I finely chopped a quarter of a large red onion. Laura added the mushroom slices and onion to a quantity of Sierra Nevada ground beef. She added minced garlic, ground black pepper, crushed red pepper, Tony Chachere's More Spice, and teriyaki sauce and molded this into four large patties. I thinly sliced a large tomato and a large red onion. I cut four large slices of extra-sharp cheddar cheese. I placed a quantity of Ore-Ida fries in the oven and fired up the grill. I toasted some Oroweat onion rolls on the grill while the burger patties cooked. I took the onion rolls to the table, and Laura and I prepared them while waiting for the fries and burger patties to cook. When the patties were nearly done, I placed the cheese slices atop them and turned off the gas. I left the patties in the grill for five minutes. The cheese melted beautifully. I removed the fries from the oven, and took the burger patties and fries to the table. It was a delicious meal. Two burger patties remain for a dinner later in the week.

Last evening, at Harvest Christian Center, a graduation ceremony for those who had completed The Lord's Table program supplanted the Bible class which is generally held on Wednesday evenings. Laura and I were among those who gave testimonies and received diplomas. It was a beautiful ceremony.

This weekend is the annual May Madness Corning Car Show. Friday evening, there will be burnouts (in front of the police station!) and a cruise. Saturday will feature burnout finals and a car show. It is an excellent event. If you find yourself near this area, I highly recommend that you attend this event.

Hillary versus Obama - the Game: Play Hillary versus Obama!

It is cold this morning! Mr. Nitro's exterior temperature display indicated it was 43 degrees at 6:30 AM this morning, as I drove to my office. It is forecast to be 72 degrees this afternoon—up two degrees from yesterday. The weatherpeople predict warmer temperatures for the weekend. Good!

For dinner last evening, we had grilled pork loin chops and dirty rice. I cooked a package of Tony Chachere's Dirty Rice in the rice maker. Laura dry-rubbed two huge bone-in pork loin chops with Tony Chachere's More Spice and ground black pepper. She grilled them perfectly—charred slightly on the outside and moist and tender on the inside. While grilling, she sprayed them with a mixture of one part extra-virgin olive oil and three parts balsamic vinegar. It was a delightful meal.

The wind continues! The wind that has been plaguing us for over a week now continues today. It is forecast to be in the 80s today, so at least the wind should not be cold. Yesterday, it was cold!

Last night—while preparing to leave for Bible class at Harvest Christian Center, we watched Dick Cheney's speech at the Annual Radio and TV Correspondents Dinner. He explained "global warming," saying he observed that it was, in fact, getting warmer. He said he had no doubt that we are "...in the midst of a global warming—or, as I prefer to call it, spring!"

I have suffered with a cold for the last several days. I am nearly recovered now, but it was an unpleasant bout. This morning, Laura exhibited symptoms of this affliction and is currently evaluating whether to go to work or stay home and rest. I pray that she is quickly fully recovered.

Update - 7:30 AM: Laura just called and said she is feeling better and is going to work. She prayed for healing (as did I, of course), and she said that the Holy Spirit prompted her to walk out in faith that she would be healed!
