Play Misty for Me, In the News, and Enjoy

Play Misty for Me - Play Misty for Me is a movie that was well ahead of its time (1971).

Clint Eastwood plays the lead character, Dave, and directs the movie.

A brief fling between a male disc jockey (Dave Garver/Clint Eastwood) and an obsessed female fan (Evelyn/Jessica Walter) takes a frightening, and perhaps even deadly turn when another woman (Tobie/Donna Mills) enters the picture.

This movie is Eastwood's directorial début.

Garver/Eastwood is a late-night radio disc jockey for a small station in Carmel, California.

During his show, he takes requests. A frequent caller (Evelyn/Jessica Walter) always asks for the same song, "Misty." Her obsession, it happens, is not with the song; it is with Garver.

Eastwood's talents as actor and director blossom in this film—a glimpse into the future of what has become an incredible career.

Jessica Walter combines just the right amount of beauty, charm and menace for her role of Evelyn, which just may be her most memorable performance ever.

The supporting cast includes John Larch (Sergeant McCallum), Jack Ging (Frank), Irene Hervey (Madge), James McEachin (Al Monte), Clarice Taylor (Birdie) and Don Siegel (Murphy).

The film has survived the "test of time" perfectly. It is a film by which later suspense films are judged. It is, indeed, a paradigm of the genre.

I highly recommend Play Misty for Me to all!

TV Dinner Day, In the News, and Enjoy

TV Dinner Day - Today is TV Dinner Day!

In 1953, C.A. Swanson & Sons introduced a new product called, "TV Dinners."
This changed the prepackaged meal industry forever. The Smithsonian Institute inducted the original Swanson TV Dinner tray into the Museum of American History in 1986.

Today we celebrate this piece of American cultural history with TV Dinner Day!

The term "TV Dinner" is now synonymous with any prepackaged, frozen meal that requires little preparation and contains an entire single-serving meal. Modern-day TV dinners can be cooked in the microwave and include gourmet recipes as well as organic and vegetarian dishes.

    National Zucchini Day and Enjoy

National Zucchini Day - Today is National Zucchini Day!

Today we celebrate this versatile green vegetable and all the delicious dishes we can make with it.

The common zucchini is a close relative of the cucumber and the melon. It is a type of squash that comes from Italy. In fact, the name "zucchini" comes from the word "zucchino," which means "small squash" in Italian.

The largest zucchini on record was 69.5 inches long and weighed 65 pounds! For the best flavor, always choose a small or medium zucchini.

To celebrate National Zucchini Day, plan a dinner menu full of this healthy vegetable! Grill it, bake it into bread, or add it to a salad. Bon appétit!
