Sushi really has nothing to do with raw fish. It refers to the vinegar-seasoned rice used in making what we refer to as sushi.
There are a great many types of sushi. Nigiri is made from forming a handful of rice into a mound, and placing a piece of seafood over the top. Maki rolls are made from wrapping sushi rice and various fillings inside a seaweed wrapper.
Maki rolls have many variations in Western society. For example, the "California Roll" is made with avocado, imitation crab, and cucumber. There is also the inside-out California Roll that has the rice on the outside. The "Philadelphia Roll" has smoked salmon, cream cheese, and cucumber. the "Texas Roll" has tuna, avocado, cucumber, and is rolled in crushed French fried onions.
Sashimi is simply slices of raw fishoften salmon or tuna.
And that little mound of green paste next to your sushi? That is wasabi. It is good!
As you may recall, we were inspired by a movie, Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead that documented the juice-fasting program of Joe Cross. We visited his Web site, Reboot with Joe and became determined to follow his lead. The results have been incredible. We have experienced renewed energy, increased awareness and mental acumen, weight loss, and
increased good health.

Friday the 13th, In the News, Juicing for Life, and Enjoy
Friday the 13th - Today is Friday the 13th!
In the News - They walk among us! Juicing for Life - Laura and I are now on day THIRTEEN of our 30-day juice fastJuicing for Life! Enjoy - Relax and enjoy these images and videos!
While many will laugh off the superstitious day, others will remain in bedparalyzed by fearand avoid daily tasks, conducting business, or traveling.
In the U.S., an estimated 17 to 21 million people suffer from a fear of Friday the 13th, according to a study by the North Carolina Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute.
The phobia, known as friggatriskaidekaphobia, is not uncommon. The word comes from Frigga, the name of the Norse goddess for whom Friday is named, and triskaidekaphobia, or fear of the number thirteen. It is also sometimes called paraskevidekatriaphobia, from the Greek Paraskevi for Friday, Dekatreis for thirteen, and phobia for fear.
There will be three incidences of the superstitious day this year, January 13, April 13, and June 13. In the Gregorian calendar, Friday the 13th always occurs at least once a year and can appear up to three times in any one year.
The origin of fears surrounding Friday the 13th is unclear. There is reportedly no written evidence of Friday the 13th superstition before the 19th century, but superstitions surrounding the number 13 date back to at least 1700 BC.
There has also been a longstanding myth that if 13 people dine together, one will die within a year. The myth comes from both the Last Supperwhen Jesus dined with the 12 Apostles prior to his deathand a popular Norse myth, in which 11 close friends of the god Odin dine together only to have the 12-person party crashed by a 13th person, Loki, the god of evil and turmoil.
In fact, the number 13 has been considered cursed across the world for thousands of years. The number 12 is historically considered the number of completeness, while its older cousin, 13, has been seen as an outlier. There are 12 months of the year, 12 gods of Olympus, 12 hours of the clock, 12 tribes of Israel, 12 Apostles of Jesus, 12 Descendants of Muhammad Imams, among many incidences of the pattern historically.

My weight this morning was 219.8. That is not a great drop from yesterday's 220.1, but it passed the 220-pound plateau!

Kamehameha Day - Today is Kamehameha Day! In the News - They walk among us! Juicing for Life - Laura and I are now on day eleven of our 30-day juice fastJuicing for Life! Enjoy - Relax and enjoy these images and videos!
Kamehameha Day is a public holiday of the state of Hawaii. It honors Kamehameha the Great, the monarch who first established the unified Kingdom of Hawai'icomprising the Hawaiian Islands of Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Moloka'i, Lāna'i, Kaho'olawe, Maui and Hawai'i.
While he was king, Hawaii was a center of the fur and sandalwood trade. Pineapples were brought to Hawaii from Spain in 1813, and coffee was first planted in 1818a year before he died.
In 1883 a statue of King Kamehameha I was dedicated in Honolulu by King David Kalākaua. This was a duplicate, because the original statue was lost at sea. There is another duplicate of this statue in Emancipation Hall at the Capitol Visitor Center in Washington, D.C.
