Friday Update: Chromecast Has Arrived!

Chromecast Has Arrived! - When Google announced Chromecast, I immediately pre-ordered one from the Google Play Store.

Later that day, I decided I needed at least two units and tried to add another unit to my order with Google. The Google Play Store, however, showed the unit as out of stock. I ordered a second unit from Amazon.com.

Monday, I received a message from Google indicating that the Chromecast I had on order there would be delivered on Friday, August 9.


Yesterday, I received a message from Amazon.com stating that the Chromecast I had on order was expected to ship in late October!

I was very surprised and very displeased.

Yesterday, I received an email coupon from Google. I redeemed it and was credited with three free months of Netflix. Since I was already a subscriber, Netflix credited my account.

At $35, Chromecast is a bargain. At a net cost of $11, it is an incredible bargain!


Today, the Chromecast I ordered from Google arrived.
It took less than 60 seconds to unbox, install, and setup the Chromecast.

I easily cast tabs from the Google Chrome browser on my HP graphic workstation. I cast YouTube videos form my Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone. I cast Netflix from my ASUS Google Nexus 7 2013. All casts took place quickly and without issue. The Chromecast is an amazing device.
I received an email from Amazon.com today stating that their previous email was in error, and the Chromecast I have on order there should arrive late this month. I am eager for it, since the unit I have been using here at my office must follow me home today!

Hello, 2013

Hello, 2013 - Am I perchance solitary in imagining that last year passed quickly? It certainly seems that way to me. As I sit here at my desk in my office I find myself absorbed in meditation over the past year—musing, if you will—and consumed by the concept that 2012 passed significantly more quickly than prior years.

It would be a simple matter to continue with mental concentration on this issue of 2012, however, it is time to move ahead. In doing so, I offer as closure the notion that 2012 seems to have passed quickly because the year seemed to pass quickly because the year was filled with so much tragedy, violence, uncertainty, and disappointment that I wanted it to pass quickly and, therefore, imagined that it did.

I must busy myself with other issues and attend to the daily business at hand—else, I fear, I would slip slowly but surely into a delirium and quickly find myself unable to successfully perform the various tasks so necessary to my daily agenda. I cannot allow this and must discontinue herewith my absorption relative to the year past.

Imagine my surprise (truthfully!) when I received a Google Alert indicating that this blog listed as a source for information concerning new channels to be offered via Roku in an article in the Wall Street Journal! This article includes a link to this blog, with the following caption for the link: "Other Articles Discussing this Story - A Match Made in Cyberspace, Matters of Life and Death, -and- To Protect and Serve (Posted on David Louis Harter's Blog at Mon, Nov 23, 2009 at 10:44AM)."

I promise I shall not allow the media attention and inevitable fame that shall follow in the wake of this change me or this blog in any way!

COLD! This morning is the coldest that it has been here in Corning since December 21, 1939! It was 24° during the night, and the temperature had increased to a mere 27° when I arrived at my office at 7:30 AM! Yikes! Interestingly, it is so dry that there was no ice on Mr. Nitro's windshield! Were there to be rain at these temperatures, certainly we would have snow—something that is experienced here very rarely;. The last snow here was ten years ago.
