Born in Mount Vernon, New York, actor Denzel Washington appeared in off-Broadway productions and TV movies, gaining a starring role in TV drama "St. Elsewhere" (1982?8). He went on to films such as "Malcolm X" (1992), and won Oscars for "Glory" (1989) and "Training Day" (2001).

Born on this day in history: September 27, 1722 - Samuel Adams (1722 - 1803) revolutionary, statesman. He was leader of the Massachusetts "radicals," and the force behind the Boston Tea Party, 1773; signer of the Declaration of Independence.

For dinner last night, we had grilled pork loin chops, yellow squash, white mushrooms, and Jalapeños. I made a tasty teriyaki sauce, using bottled teriyaki sauce, brown sugar, molasses, soy sauce, ground Cayenne pepper, and lime juice. Laura grilled the pork and vegetables perfectly. It was a delightful meal.

Bad Taste: Responding to pressure from Christian groups, the Miller Brewing Co. is asking organizers of a "gay" street celebration in San Francisco to remove its logo from a promotional poster portraying Jesus Christ and his disciples as "half-naked homosexual sadomasochists."

In a statement on its Web site, Miller said while it has "supported the Folsom Street Fair for several years, we take exception to the poster the organizing committee developed this year."

It is sadly coincidental that this is Samuel Adams' birthday. I can only imagine how disgusted he would be with the Miller Brewing Co.—a major player in an industry he was instrumental in creating!

On this day in history: April 30, 1961 - Lee Harvey Oswald, during his stay in the Soviet Union, marries hospital employee Marina Prusakova. Oswald later becomes disenchanted with Soviet life, and the couple emigrates to the United States. Even so, he never permits his wife to learn English.

Born on this day in history: April 30, 1933 - Willie Nelson (1933 - ____) musician, singer. He won Grammys for country songs "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain," 1975 and "Georgia on My Mind," 1978.

It was 61 degrees outside, according to Mr. Nitro's temperature probe, and 71 degrees inside my office at 7:15 AM this morning. This promises to be a warm day. The weather was fine all weekend—with temperatures reaching the low 90s.

I positioned Mr. Nitro on the front lawn Friday afternoon. When he became shaded by the tree under which I positioned him, I bathed him lovingly, using Mothers California Gold Car Wash, and dried him with a soft cotton towel. I allowed him to spend the night on the lawn. In the morning, I applied Mothers Reflections Advanced Leather Care to his leather seats. He shines!
