    Born on this Day in History: March 30, 1945 - Eric Clapton was born in Surrey, England. Clapton was raised by his grandparents and started playing guitar in his early teens. In 1966 he formed the band Cream. They were internationally popular for improvisational solos. They disbanded in the late 1960s and Clapton became a major singer-songwriter.






    On this Day in History: March 30, 1981 - While President Reagan undergoes surgery for a life-threatening gunshot wound, Secretary of State Alexander Haig announces to the press: "As of now, I am in control here, in the White House, pending return of the Vice President."
