Born on this Day in History: September October 17, 1918 - Rita Hayworth (1918 - 1987) American film bombshell Rita Hayworth was trained as a dancer until her film debut at age 16 in Dante's Inferno (1935). It wasn't until her appearance in The Strawberry Blonde (1941) that she began her ascent to stardom. She is best known for her performance in Charles Vidor's Gilda (1946). Her career ended with Ralph Nelson's The Wrath of God (1972). She died of Alzheimer's disease.
