Born on this Day in History: May 11, 1904 - Salvador Dalí (1904 - 1989) Born in Figueres, Spain, artist Salvador Dali produced paintings that made him the world's best-known Surrealist. In the late 1920s, he also began co-producing and writing films such as Un chien andalou (1929). His most famous painting, "The Persistence of Memory"—along with his flamboyant mustache and pet lobster—made him an eccentric art icon.
