Born on this Day in History: February 9, 1942 - Born in New York City, singer and songwriter Carole King has written or co-written over 400 songs that have been recorded by more than 1,000 artists. Many of her most popular works--including "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" for The Shirelles, "Take Good Care of My Baby" for Bobby Vee, and "You Make Me Feel (Like a Natural Woman)" for Aretha Franklin--were written in partnership with her first husband, Gerry Goffin.

Born on this Day in History: February 8, 1921 - Born in Wallace, Idaho, Lana Turner was "discovered" while drinking soda at a Hollywood café. She signed with MGM and became a celebrated film actress and movie sex symbol. Married seven times, Turner was romantically connected to numerous actors. In 1958 Turner's daughter stabbed gangster Johnny Stompanato, but it was judged justifiable homicide. Turner died in 1995

On this Day in History: February 8, 1960 - Beer heir Adolph Coors III (who was ironically allergic to beer), killed after a failed kidnapping attempt in Colorado. By October, Joseph Corbett Jr. is arrested in Canada after an national manhunt.

Born on this Day in History: February 7, 1812 - Born into poverty in Portsmouth, England, Charles Dickens left school to work in a factory to support his family. His novels, most published in serial form, attracted a huge following making him one of the first international literary celebrities. His difficult early life led him to crusade for social justice, through his fiction and in life. Charles Dickens died in 1870.

On this Day in History: February 7, 1945 - A drunken visitor to the British Museum smashes the irreplaceable Portland Vase into over 200 pieces. The elaborate glass amphora was created when Augustus was Caesar and is about ten inches high. It takes months to repair.

Born on this Day in History: February 6, 1911 - Born Ronald Wilson Reagan, he initially chose a career in entertainment. While in Hollywood, he served as President of the Screen Actor's Guild. He was elected Governor of California in 1966. 40th president of the United States (1981–89), noted for his conservative Republicanism, his fervent anticommunism, and his appealing personal style, characterized by a jaunty affability and folksy charm. The only movie actor ever to become president, he had a remarkable skill as an orator that earned him the title "the Great Communicator." His policies have been credited with contributing to the demise of Soviet communism.

On this Day in History: February 6, 1951 - Radio personality Paul Harvey is arrested for trying to break into Argonne Atomic Lab.
