On this Day in History: February 9, 1968 - Planet of the Apes opens.

Born on this Day in History: February 9, 1944 - Alice Walker (1944 - ) Born in Eatonton, Georgia, poet and novelist Alice Walker is best known for her novels, notably The Color Purple (1982), which won a Pulitzer Prize and a National Book Award. It was made into a successful 1985 movie a 2005 Broadway musical. In 2006, she was inducted into the California Hall of Fame for her contributions to literature.

On this Day in History: February 8, 1960 - Beer heir Adolph Coors III (who was ironically allergic to beer), killed after a failed kidnapping attempt in Colorado. By October, Joseph Corbett Jr. is arrested in Canada after an national manhunt.

Born on this Day in History: February 8, 1931 - James Dean (1931 - 1955) Born in Marion, Indiana, actor James Dean starred in only three films, including Rebel Without a Cause (1955). His untimely death in a car accident helped make him a cult figure who represented youthful rebellion. In 1965, he was the first actor to receive a posthumous Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.

The Super Bowl

As she does each year at this time, yesterday, Laura asked, “Well, are you ready for the Super Bowl?”

As I do each year at this time, I replied, “I am not an aficionado of bowling, but since you apparently enjoy the sport, I shall be pleased to watch it with you.”

At this point, each year at this time, I enjoy a wonderful NAP. This year, however, I was suffering greatly from back pain and could not sleep. For this reason, I watched the Super Bowl for the first time (EVER). His sitcom "Everybody Hates Chris" debuted in 2005, snagging several awards, and in 2009 he won an Emmy for his "Kill the Messenger" HBO special.
