On this day in history: January 7, 1994 - Young hoodlum Al Pacino arrested for carrying a concealed weapon. He and his compatriots were driving around a suburb of Providence RI, in the middle of the night, wearing masks and gloves. Not suspicious at all.

Born on this day in history: January 7, 1957 - Katie Couric (1957 - ) Born in Arlington, Virginia, journalist Katie Couric began at ABC, moved to CNN, then to NBC, becoming the No. 2 reporter at the Pentagon. She was the co-anchor of "The Today Show" before moving to the "CBS Evening News" in 2006, making her the first female solo news anchor in the U.S. She won the Edward R. Murrow award in 2008 and 2009 for her work.

Born on this day in history: January 6, 1954 - Anthony Minghella (1954 - 2008) The Academy Award-winning director of The English Patient (1996), Anthony Minghella used his love of literature to create rich, dynamic films. Before his untimely death, Minghella wowed critics and audiences with his adaptations of books such as The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) and Cold Mountain (2003).

Born on this day in history: January 5, 1946 - Diane Keaton (1946 - ) Born Diane Hall in Los Angeles, actress Diane Keaton starred in several of Woody Allen's best-known films, including, Annie Hall (1977), which earned her a Best Actress Oscar. She also appeared in the 1972 hit, The Godfather and its sequels. Keaton now splits her time between acting and directing.
